Choosing traits and flaws for your character can stump most newcomers to the game. Luckily there is a cheat-sheet provided by Haelrahv which will tell you what each one does. If you are unsure about something, I suggest talking with any of your many co-players or even better, posting questions on the forums. Choosing traits and flaws, short of a mass retrain for the entire gaming population, is a ONE TIME shot...so choose carefully. If you have already trained stats prior to choosing traits and flaws, you will be required to retrain them. Type SELECT TRAITS in the game to begin the process.
Before you can learn to be good at anything, you must (currently) train that skill up with various trainers around the world. Haidee's map 1 shows where most things can be trained in the Llanfair area. Typing HELP PROFESSION in the game can give you basic information about which skills and stats your character should start off training - but again, speaking with an older player will usually help you get started on the right foot. NOTE: Other than choosing traits and flaws (see above), no perceived "mistake" you make here is going to be unfixable.
Trackers have an advantage over most other professions. They have a
wide range of activities they can do for experience and profit right
from the start, such as foraging, skinning, crafting and hunting. In addition, they will excel at most of these activities more
than other professions (with the exception of Artisans and crafting).
As you read through some of the pages located on this site,
you will learn more detail about not only the options available to all
(including Trackers), but those things which Trackers excel in.
The primary way newcomers make money and earn experience,
regardless of profession. Ecology may be trained with Aisaaba Osheo,
the Tracker professional leader. She can be found wandering the Eolai Sector.
Ecology will provide you with the means to forage and mine,
which, in addition to hunting, are the things you will learn to do
first. More about ecology can be found by clicking the Ecology link to
the left.
