Ecology

SURVEYing an area, in addition to other things, will allow you to see what can be foraged there:

Looking carefully at your surroundings, you note the primary composition of the terrain as a fair concentration of grass, a fair concentration of dirt, and a small amount of coniferous forest.
This area is at sea level.
It is currently night.
It looks like you could forage an ortus flower, some sirolei ivy, a catlas flower, an argurat fruit, an archer's arrow, a three-leaf clover, a pink eorit stone, a vexri stone, a shoran jewel, a rkol gem, a nabiko gem, a silbein limb, a silbein branch, a silbein stick, and a silbein twig here.

If the terrain is trampled, the last thing you will see is a message similar to this:

"The terrain here appears to be slightly trampled."

If you are a Tracker, you will see something like the following as well:

"It appears that the level of terrain trampling in the area has reduced the available resources by about <#> percent."

The worse the message is, the more trampled it is, and the less likely you are to find what you are looking for.

Once you have located the item you wish to find, you can FORAGE <item> Example: forage eorit stone.

Excluding wood: Continue foraging with the item in your right hand. The system will add to the units of the item rather than foraging a new item. Each item can have up to 50 units. Once you reach that amount, you can put it away and start on a new one. Wood: One unit each.

There is a short STARTER guide here on where to find various forageable items around Llanfair.
