So who else is either throwing or attending a debate party tomorrow? Our College Democrat group is throwing one and we're wheeling in three 42" screen TVs from a local church. What struck me as amusing is that we're doing it at a Mexican restaurant. I am so hoping one of the topics will be immigration; it'll just make it all the better.
So, yeah. Anyone else?

Considering that I hate politics (and politicians), I think not. I hate it even more that Bush has gotten me into politics. _________________ Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! |

As fun as I actually do think it would be, my friend base is sourly limited to people who work at and frequent a record store. They aren't good for much (no offense)... _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |

Not really throwing a party, but I'll prolly watch it. Just because it might get me extra credit in Civics class tomorrow. _________________ >ask librarian about books

My impressions:
Bush's key point for the entire night was that Kerry "flip-flops". He switched up the wording a little bit every now and then, but anyone with a brain cell pretty much knows that he wanted to drive that point home by the end of the night. He also made some proposals regarding a Missle Defense System, which freaked me out because I've never heard him mention that before (in a serious tone, at least).
But yeah. Bush started getting fairly nervous midway through the debate. He took long pauses while he was trying to formulate an answer. I guess it's understandable since he really can't prepare 100% for everything. But dead air just doesn't play well. Kerry was quick to answer all of his questions; he also managed to use every second to get out everything he wanted. On the other hand, it seemed as though Bush was trying to "flesh out" his statements with his dead air.
I can't remember all of the points made, honestly. Just turn into C-SPAN sometime during the next couple of weeks... they'll be spamming it until election day.

PS: Sorry for those that might think I'm trying to bash Bush. I know that I didn't comment much on Kerry but that's because I was more focused on Bush. It was a good debate overall, though. _________________

I had to take a break from watching it for a little while, cause it just annoyed me when Bush said something about Kerry flipflopping in every single 30 seconds he got. I liked how Kerry handled the debate. Like you said Will, he was quick with his responses, while Bush hesitated a lot. He seemed like he had his speeches well planned. I don't like Kerry all that much, but I'd say that he stomped Bush in that debate, simply because Bush didn't have much to say. (I missed the part about the Missle Defense System thingy.) He accused Kerry of flip flopping on issues, but it didn't seem to me like he had much of an opinion at all, which I think is worse. I really hope he was more to say at the next debate. _________________ >ask librarian about books

The whole flip-flopping issue is getting really tired. I mean, sure, he's changed his mind on a few things, but who hasn't? Besides, a lot of the time it's taken out of context (like the whole not-funding-our-troops bullshit -- there was a rider sitting in that bill that Kerry was strongly against getting approved so he voted against it; when a similar bill came through without that rider he voted for it).
Another amusing part in the debate was when Bush inadvertantly contradicted himself. Well, not really contradicted, but he did make himself look an ass. He stated that the White House was all about changing tactics in the midst of battle (or something to that effect) when just a few minutes prior he tried to prod at Kerry's changing his mind on various issues. Eh? I understand that the White House has more responsibilities/liabilities than a Senator, but it still irked me.

Look at it this way (because I missed the debate), if he was mentioning "flip-flop" every 30 seconds, at least you weren't subjected to his usual answer/speech: "September 11th. War on terror. Freedom. Terror. Terror. Democracy. September 11th. Terror. Thank you, and goodnight." _________________ Mickey Brunner

With his lack for any other "relevent" political material, I would never have imagined. Unless it's a glamourized National Guard-cum-fighter jet photo-op, in which case it's "Mission Accomplished", yes? _________________ Mickey Brunner
