I know the messaging is all off and awkward for combat, but...
Quote: |
R>upper
Running more on luck than skill, you hurl a powerful uppercut at a chith. Somehow, you land a slight hit to his left arm as a chith fails to dodge the attack.
... Critical strike!
[You are balanced, healthy, and well rested.]
Roundtime: 6 sec.
R>look chith
The chith is a small humanoid roughly two feet or so in height. Its skin is green and knobby and its hair is bright red.
A chith has a slightly scuffed left arm.
He is holding a knobby wooden club in his right hand and nothing in the left.
He is wearing some tattered scraps of cloth. |
...What are critical strikes supposed to indicate? A dramatic hit to the target's HP, a dramatic hit that causes bleeding (which I get sometimes on a CS), or something that I'm not aware of?

I think it just means a really good random roll on attack or a really horrible defensive roll. |

It's an exceptionally accurate hit that increases damage, likelihood of a stun or knockdown. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Scuffs can go as high as 19% damage to a body area. That is, a scuffed location could be up to 19% toward being 'completely destroyed'. So yes it's possible to score a low hit that becomes a better low hit. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Oh, so much better. Now if only I can pump Coordination enough to where I can actually hit specific areas on command. Then all I'll need is for Backs, Necks, Heads, and Abdomens to be critical areas that cause you to die instantly if blown off.

yea I think its something like in d&d. you get a 20 an you have a crit hit, which doubles your hp damage, but, if you only rolled a 1 damage you would only do 2 pts damage.
at least thats the way I took it after seen a few of my crits on small gamo's |

Unlike D&D, proper training allows anyone to get critical hits more. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

I didn't want to make another thread, but I wanted to share this:
Quote: |
A chith has a slightly scuffed left eye, an injured right eye, a slightly scuffed abdomen, a slightly scuffed left arm, a mangled right arm, a wounded left hand, a wounded right hand, a wounded right leg, a slightly scuffed left foot, and a slightly scuffed right foot.
A chith has minor bleeding from his right eye, heavy bleeding from his right arm, light bleeding from his left hand, light bleeding from his right hand, and light bleeding from his right leg. |
Super vitality is great.

Just curious, but is there any way we can get a list of hits from softest to hardest? Like superficial, light, good, etc? _________________ One must have knowledge beyond learning, and wisdom beyond understanding to say what can or cannot be. |

You pretty much have it with those three.. in that order, too, I would imagine. I've only seen three more: hard, serious, and critical.

PS: Fair works itself in between 'light' and 'good', I think. _________________

Pulls from his DMing and Playing experince of 3rd edition. Actually there are a few things you can do to increase the likelyhood of crit strikes in D&D. |

superficial
slight
weak
fair
good
strong
serious
massive
devastating
critical
That's all of them. As to whether or not they're in the right order, that's what it appears to be in terms of HP lost.

The bonuses from Improved Critical and keen weapons are static modifers, though, based on the threat range of the weapon. Still a fixed abstract, I mean. _________________ Mickey Brunner
