Is this new avatar too big, and if so can anyone help me cut it down some without losing some of the detail?

It is pretty tall. It can be either cropped so that part of it removed, or resized so that all of it is smaller. The height could be resized while the width is static, but then it would be distorted.
A good program to resize with is IrfanView.
