Balut is actually pretty good. It make look disgusting but it just tastes like a regular hard boiled egg with a lil bit of broth too it. What should have been listed on that list is this the durian:

Its shape ranges from oblong to round, the colour of its husk green to brown and its flesh pale-yellow to red, depending on species.[5] The hard outer husk is covered with sharp, prickly thorns, while the edible custard-like flesh within emits the strong, distinctive odour, which is regarded as either fragrant or overpowering and offensive. The taste of the flesh has been described as nutty and sweet. It's so smelly that they forbid durians on Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit.

never tasted durians but my mother being malaysian swore they where a delicacy that she loved to eat .

getting back to food i used to catch eels and keep them alive an squirming for a local fishmonger who then used to sell them off as jellied eels. Twisted Evil

Jellied Eels

Jellied eels are a traditional dish from the East End of London. As the name suggests, jellied eels are stewed eels in a spiced jelly that is made from the stewing juices. It's a food that is sold by street vendors, although it can more usually be found in 'pie and mash' shops, and can be bought throughout London and Essex due to the migration of the East London population. It is commonly eaten with another East End delicacy, 'pie, mash and liquor' - which used to be made with eel fat. Beef or lard is more common nowadays.

This dish, either delicious or disgusting, depending on your point of view, finds its roots in the muddy Thames estuary, which is a good habitat for eels. They were easy to catch locally, and it was easy to keep them alive in barrels for long enough to bring them to market, so the supply was easier than that of other kinds of fish. They were common, cheap and easily transportable, making them a favourite in the East End.

sorry couldnt find a pic but they taste not much different from rollmops (pickled fish rolled up into bitesized chunks) Twisted Evil

Yeah, it is considered a delicacy in Asia, but it's hard for me to eat something that smells really bad. I'm sure if I couldn't smell it, i'd be able to eat it.

We had a durian tree in our yard when I lived overseas (though we called it "jack fruit"). We tried many times to eat them, but they are just so gross. Seriously disgusting, in texture, taste and smell. I can't believe they are for sale here in the international markets.

However, recently in the international market they are selling something called 'ramutans'. They are about the size of an oblong plum and have little tentacles all over them. If you can get your hands on some of these, they are WONDERFUL. And if you ever find a mangostine, let me know.
