Level: 48
Marksmanship: 150 (154)
Tactics: 96
Evasion: 144 (152)
Agility: 80 (81)
Coordination: 58
Mentality: 50 (55)
Perception: 40 (51)
Alright, with all of my statistics out of the way...Is there anyone who can attempt to tell me why I can't hit a single guard with my guns? And how they always manage to hit me? Is 2 promotions really that much of a difference, or is it a matter of my mentality/coord being too low?
*Edit* I've tried this with varying sorts of encumbrace, including not being encumbered at all and it didn't make a difference. I've also tried fighting them poorly balanced and normally balanced, and that didn't seem to help. They dodged and hit me too much for me to get to Incredibly balanced, so I didn't test with that. _________________ Victim: Well, what is the creed?

it's possible that it's a mix of them being two levels higher plus them using shields. shields are notably more effective at blocking things than evasion, _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Hm. Didn't think of that. I'll try again some more using my blades and seeing if that helps.
*Edit* Not that I expected this to work at all, but it didn't. I'll just wait til next promotion and try again. _________________ Victim: Well, what is the creed?

Shields don't offer protection against guns though right? _________________ >ask librarian about books

From news 16:
Code: |
[Defense]
Evasion: Agility (primary), Mentality (secondary)
Parry : Coordination (primary), Mentality (secondary)
Shield : Coordination (primary), Strength (secondary)
>>Note 1: Parry cannot be used against projectiles such as bullets, magic
bolts, or arrows. Shield can be used against projectiles but not against
'cloud' or 'aura' type attacks such as the Icy Aura spell. Shields with
lightning resistance provide partial or full avoidance of electrical-based
spells.
>>Note 2: Shield defense is slightly more effective as a defense than parry,
and parry defense is more effective than evasion. Regardless, evasion defense
is a requirement to have a chance to defend against all forms of attack. |

I'll tell you this much... as-is, you do have a chance to hit guards, but you're overall evenly matched. Your level is a factor, and yes, shields are superior to evasion all things being equal - unless of course you were using a cloud, aura, etc as indicated.
The biggest factor is that guards are considered to be in the Trooper profession and receive a 10% defensive skill bonus accordingly. You'd be hitting them fine if they were, for instance, Trackers. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Ah. I'm glad all is not as Daedalus said, and I do not in fact suck at combat.
Thanks a ton Trevor. _________________ Victim: Well, what is the creed?

if it helps any if you were better in combat you would hit them better, so it kinda is because you, relatively, suck.
to put actual value into the reply, i remember royal guards being kind of crappy in the treasure-dropping department, so if you plan to hunt them for loot you might be disappointed. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Hey now, if the guard was a Tracker using a bow or firearm... _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

I'd be able to kill him, cause he wouldn't have the +10% to defenses! *cackles* _________________ Victim: Well, what is the creed?

You can hunt with a Guardian who can WARD, it drops combat defenses/offensives a bit, not sure by how much though. _________________ "In view of the fact that God limited the intelligence of man, it seems unfair that he did not also limit his stupidity."
