After some thought about the balance of training, I've decided to use an unusual approach to stat training. Instead of getting X points per level, or draining a stat pool as with skills, you'll get physical or mental training points when you raise skills.
For instance, if you raise bladed weapons, you'd get some physical training points. Now, when I say points, I don't mean literal ranks. For instance, raising bladed to 205 costs 2,500 offense skill pool points. So, 2,500 points are added to the physical stat pool. If you wanted to raise strength to 40, it costs 40,471 points. You can see that 2,500 is well short.
So, you'll need to rank up several skills in order to improve a stat. I can tell you that as a very crude average, you can expect to raise stats about 6 times per level if you were to raise all your stats evenly (which you probably won't, so more like 3, 4, 5... something, per level).
Stats are intended to go to a max of 200 but there is no cap. Skills are intended to go to a max of 2,000 but there is no cap. Since costs rise with training, there is incentive to diversify, but it's not directly exponential so you can toss all your eggs in a few baskets and still come out OK. It's pretty balanced out.
And yes, the more it costs to raise a skill, the more stat points you get for raising it. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato
