I've been wanting to make a new thread for odd/interesting news links for awhile now. I figured the "Interesting Sites" thread should be more for quirky sites than news. That last sentence was going to be more elaborate, but I lost my train of thought midway through it, so whatever.

Anyway, to start this party off:

Girl, 11, youngest to give birth in Britain

As ridiculous as it all is, this just takes it beyond absurd:

The 15-year-old has since been charged with rape by police, and is due to appear again at Edinburgh sheriff court on July 10.

Sure, let's not deal with the knocked up, chain smoking 11 yr old who clearly lacks supervision, instead let's totally ruin a kid's life for doing what 15 year olds have been doing since the dawn of time. We all know it's 100% his fault anyway, right?

Hmm, surprised 11 if actually the youngest. And my bet... the grandmother is not more than 28 years old. See this all the time around here, it's shocking.

Maybe I'm just crazy and I'm no doctor, but if they are hell bent on removing one arm to make the other work and can't tell which left arm is more developed... shouldn't the fact only one is properly attached to a shoulder be some sort of indicator? Compared to the "front" left arm, the back on looks perfectly normal.

That's exactly what I thought of when I first saw him, Yaru.

Trevor: it does say that the baby shows pain whenever either left arm is touched. So there might be some crossed nerves somewhere. Or the two humerus bones could be joined at the shoulder joint, which could potentially make for a tricky operation. There's really an infinite amount of possibilities when it comes to the human body being fucked up.

Sometimes I feel like we're the only country who even pretends to follow the rules anyways...and sometimes I want to torture these people with real techniques, not just humiliation...but then I wonder if that just doesn't lower us to their level. I'll just settle for a nice, broad 'people are dumb' and be on my way.

Where I live the law is you sleep with a girl who is drunk, underage or not, whether you are drunk or not and you can be charged with rape. As far as it being 100% his fault, no one has declared a verdict or passed a sentence yet so who knows? Anyways, just because 15 year olds have doing it forever doesn't mean he can't help himself. Humans have always killed each other...does that mean we shouldn't prosecute murderers?

so if he was drunk too, can he counter-accuse rape also?

the "woman drunk = rape" thing is silly just because it implies two things.

1) a drunk woman is always unable to handle a situation
2) a drunk man is always able to handle a situation

thus, if two people are drunk, who actually is the person consenting?

Check this link for an update on my German educational system post of years ago.

I'm still torn on what to think of it, but here is a view -- from Newsweek -- about how European schools are failing to provide students with career path options or chances for individual development. It's a good way to reapprise oneself of the debate.

According to the laws of my current home state, the guy is the only one liable. (And I'm not saying that's right either...just the way it is) And as best I can tell a 'drunk' person is always unable to handle a situation...which is why I think it's best just to avoid the situation all together. That's just something I decided for myself, not telling anyone else what to do. And I'm not even saying drinking is bad...just getting drunk. Anyways...
