after a nice fun hunting session involving eoceoe hiding while provoking critters to kill each other for him, i have to admit this is an awesome ability.

if critters didn't take forever to kill each other, i'd totally use this as my primary way of fighting.

A heads up, so there aren't any nasty surprises (and note that I'm not saying any of these circumstances apply to you; just a general fyi)

- The Performer's "offense" roll more or less scales according to both yours and the mob's level, although it's not the same as the standardized mental attack check. A 20th level Performer with min-maxed charisma and various charisma buffs will still have a very minimal chance of causing, say, modan kuchos to riot.
- Coordinating with the previous statement, provoking things out of your league carries a greater chance of a botch (when they get angry and attack you instead).
- Certain mobs aren't provoke-able. And speaking of which, the current list of no-no types could probably use some updating.

A couple ideas (not decrees!) off the top of my head, since provoke never really got enough use or [positive] PR for me to consider expanding it.

- Greater skill (or power [level, skill, etc] if you want to be technical) inciting greater frenzy in targets -- power, speed, etc.
- Hidden provoking could use some stealth checks, since lots of sentient creatures would feasibly want to know what devil is whispering in their ear.
- Boons or quest-earned abilities or some similar catalyst as a means to provoke one of the no-no mobs; the mentioned-once-upon-a-time Mourner and "undead", for example.

sound good! i was thinking of trying to find a way to train stealth anyway so can't hurt!

i do have eoceoe provoke-hunt a bit over his head, but i had no plan to ever expected to provoke something notably higher than me.

i like the idea of riling things into a bigger frenzy, but just in general not toward a specific target. maybe convincing the target to be more defensive (at the cost of offense) or more offensive (at th cost of defense).

what kind of mobs are nono mobs? as far as i'm aware all animals/humanoids are good, but robots/undead aren't, right?

Having just checked the code, I noticed that for some reason mechanical and undead aren't exempt from it (I thought they were), so those should be added. Scavenged creatures can't either, but they'd technically fall under undead. In Live (or maybe in the new skill system), it wouldn't be too farfetched to check persuasion for "sentients" and handle animal for everything else, either.

think we'll ever be able to lure things like (non-errand-giving) civilians and guards someday? maybe a persusasion skill check?

just saying that because i can see a performer being able to get people to show up somewhere.

i've seen zamde use some spellsong or something in the past that makes fans show up, but i don't know if that's some special item or whatever from forever ago doing it.

A random effect of Wisecrack's Refrain.

I forgot I disabled it. As soon as I can rewrite a big chunk of it for resists, etc, I'll put it back out.

this is also an obvious sign that the 'Osers will be emocore.

our audience must cry AND punch each other in the face.

Too bad we still don't have ventriloquism. We could make them love us despite themselves.
