Japan was bracing for more snow on Friday after some of the heaviest snowfall on record that has left 57 people dead and paralysed transport.

Almost 4 metres (13 ft) of snow has piled up in the worst-hit areas of Niigata near the Japan Sea coast, though the snowiest season of the year is yet to come.

Read the full story here .

It's been different for this southern girl, that's for sure.

See, this is the kind of stuff I wish the news networks would focus on instead of a mine shaft collapsing.

Anyway, if I were that woman, I totally would have just stayed in. Screw shoveling the sidewalk.

I'm not in Niigata prefecture (east coast) where that woman in the picture is, I'm in Aomori prefecture (north coast). It's been fairly bad here too though. We've gotten about 8 feet total, and more expected. However, because we are further north and see snow for about 6 months a year, the city is full of plows and bulldozers, so I think we are a little better equipped to handle it.

If you're curious at all about where things are, here's a pretty good map of Japan:

You know, I've always wanted it to snow down here. It did when I was two, and apparently I made little mini-snowmen with the other kids in the neighborhood, but I don't remember this.

On second thought, however, nevermind. Knowing Georgia, the one time it snows it'll try to out-do Japan.

Thanks for ruining my childhood dreams, Faith. Sad

Man...I wish it would snow over here. The snowboarding sucks right now. There's like a 12" base on some of the mountains. Totally ghey.

My understanding is that it's been exceptionally mild here too. The temps have been highs of about 29 or so and lows of around 15 lately, I only recall a couple nights where it dipped below zero. The snow has been minor so far, very little all told... we constantly have some snow or slush and ice down but not a lot of snow.

Screw you and your snow. Mad

As to Trevor: 35deg is as low as temperatures need to get. You (and everyone else) is crazy for living in places that it goes lower.
