Hey.
It's me again.
So you know how you wonderful wonderful GMs award us experience bonuses for good roleplaying?
I was thinking...we should have the option to exchange our RP award for either XP, or a simple standard alteration.
Why do I suggest this?
Simple. Custom items help with our ability to role play. Disagree? Consider Dixie's needle. Or Kit's laptop toolkit. Simple alterations that better suit the character.
I don't think these alterations should be free. Definitely charge what any good in-game merchant would to make it fair, but I definitely think that XP discourages roleplaying where items that suit the user encourage it.

I’m probably not the best one to respond to this, but I’ll give you my thoughts on it anyway. I don't think it’s a bad idea, but it all depends on the way it would be handled. If it means having an “on-duty” alterer, I think that would be too OOC. I don’t alter as Morrigan, never have, never will. All of the people that I bring out have their own personalities that I hope come across when you visit them. They have their own agendas, their own reasons for being there at that time. Granted someone, or maybe a few people with different specializations, could make an alterer for this purpose, that comes around once every couple months or so. Or maybe something like the vale shop where you can sign up for a “visit” with a certain alterer by trading in an RPA? It certainly wouldn't be an instant gratification thing, and I would prefer to keep it IC, which is the important part in my eyes. Oh and just want to make it clear these are totally my personal opinions. I know that other GMs feel differently about the way alterations should be handled. _________________ God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.

In my own opinion, there are always alterers around. They're not 'common' but it's not like in that other game where one would come around a month and you could sign a list for a CHANCE at an alteration. The EXP is valuable to me... I saved mine for when I started to get only 1 XP a minute. Trust me, when you're trying to level on a penalty and it takes a month to get from one level to the next, you're greatful for all the RPAs you can get!
And we alkl know I'm an alteration whore...though frankly, I like the interaction with merchants more than the alterations. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Morrigan, I completely agree with you. The entire concept of gaining experience because of proper roleplaying is beyond me, as experience itself is entirely OOC while playing your character is, of course, not.
I like the idea of the Vale alterer. In fact, I really like that idea because it would encourage people to treat the civilians nicely to use their RP award. And you'd never know when it would happen, so it'd have to be something you kinda...make sure you always have.
Of course, the concept of any alterer that comes around allowing an RP award either cover the entire cost, or part of the cost, of an alteration seems a nice way to use them. Any way of using them is strictly OOC of course. Unless it's, like with the civilians, something that can be handled IC. You go to the woman who lets you into the vale and ask her about character, or something, and she goes, "Yes, I have heard marvelous things about your solid character! I work closely with many fine artisans and craftsmen, would you like a voucher for *blah blah blah*?" _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |

I'm still holding out for a mail-order alteration merchant (submit an item, they mail it to you with a note of how much they deducted from your cash).

At some point in the intermediate future, I'm planning on adding some other things to Aesha Vale that will provide a great benefit only to the character that actually goes, as opposed to the one-man-quality-caravan session now where players take other players' belongings to upgrade. _________________ Mickey Brunner

You know...I don't think I've ever done that? It feels wrong.
How do you feel about the idea I had, though, Mickey? Since you're responding. _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |

good to hear! i want my next trip out there to be for more than upgrading weapons.
i can't say i never took part in the quality caravan, though, just because that's all vale really has to offer me (past the initial "oh wow i can go here" trip and the occasional "look a new thing is there!" trip). if there was more for me to get myself, i'd be there more often. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Inherently, I want to agree with Morrigan. But I'm on the fence, for one large reason: I've seen RPAs traded like so many baseball cards. I'm not so high and mighty as to dictate that this or that player is a poor-or-undeserving roleplayer (only enough to preach on it, har), but I'd be lying if I said I didn't foresee an immediate avalanche of RPAs slung across mule accounts/characters (as if they weren't already) and trades; the point of RPAs in the first place is to reward a specific character for furthering the ICness of the game. _________________ Mickey Brunner
