The finished Eolai race art is completed, and though it's not (at time of this posting) posted under their profile on the website, it can be viewed at
http://www.haelrahv.com/images/eolai_profile.jpg
So that covers the last of the non-human races. I'd love to hear your thoughts, and look for more on Eolai culture soon!

I like the dots/markings a lot. Think they'll get added as an Eolai characteristic? They remind me of Dax (Deep Space Nine), I always found those markings very.. beautiful, not to sound corny. _________________ Dragoonseal |

Kal, you're so evil. I'm going to have to make an Eolai character, now, which will heavily take up time from my Alteri Techie.

Just curious but will those markings show up in the CM as a part of your look description for the Eolai?
If so, would those be family/house markings? Or some sort of tattoo's they can get in Haelrahv?
Just adding my two cents.
BTW Beautiful work, Kal!

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like the art!
You know, the first thing that comes up seems to inevitably be those facial markings I put on the Eolai. As it stands, they are not in the character descriptions or the character manager in-game. I believe Rich said it was possible to add them, but that's really not my field of expertise. One of the problems lies in describing them...what are they, squiggly things?Maybe we should have a poll or something.

From a technical standpoint, adding them to the CM is cake. Finding the best way to describe the actual markings (markings, designs, whatever the term is) and the actual describing words for different choices, is the only real obstacle, and certainly not an insurmountable one. I'd love to hear feedback, too. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Well, on the male it looks like camouflage markings beneath the eyes. On the female it looks like a tiara across the forehead and flowing down to her temples.
That's why it would help if you had an ingame book that describes the markings by name and what purpose they serve etc. Because if you come up with a name for those markings then you could use them as part of the cm descriptions.
I can tell you what I think they are not: marbling, mottling, freckles. If I think of some more I'll add to this post.
You could call them distinguishing marks, but that leaves a lot to the imagination, or call them decorative markings. Depends on what those markings signify.
That's why I asked are they tribal or clan markings?
Is there a race guru that can help us out?

Perhaps the markings can signify what god they follow? Just a thought.

I just thought of something to call them - glyphs.
I looked glyph up in the dictionary it says this:
1 : an ornamental vertical groove especially in a Doric frieze
2 : a symbolic figure or a character (as in the Mayan system of writing) usually incised or carved in relief
3 : a symbol (as a curved arrow on a road sign) that conveys information nonverbally
Of course it sounds kind of painful! Usually refers to solid objects not flesh and blood.
Just my two cents.

Right now there are no race gurus per se, no. The History & Lore team (of which Kal is a member and has done the Eolai-related work for) mostly handle those sorts of matters. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

I would assume that the "tattoo" would be there to indicate status, correct?
Quote: |
Interaction with other Eolai:
The Eolai are a highly structured society in which position is very important. Social standing often takes precedence to family relationships. |
There would probably have to be some pseudo-Order system in place, but whenever an Eolai finishes a racial-oriented quest, gets to a certain level, or whatever, they could choose from a list of pre-approved "markings" from some NPC. I would then assume the markings would be magical in nature, perhaps even sigils from their gods (Aiba Lli, probably, if all of them are blackish.. whatever), which would allow for a previous one to be removed and a new one to be put in place (fee required or not, I'll leave that to you guys).
Of course, an Eolai wouldn't have to get these markings. There's always going to be the rogue RPer that wants to play a hermit Eolai. That's fine. But I would like to suggest that, if an Eolai has one of these markings, it would prevent them from getting a Tattoo. Say the magic in the markings prevent the Tattoo ink from taking hold.. or something. This would save on resources, or whatever reason the DR people have for keeping us down to one Tattoo a character.

Woo, speaking as an Eolai, I really like this idea. _________________ If there is one thing in the world that I know, love conquers all, it trancends time and space, defies all odds, and can bring you back from the darkness, it is the guiding light that helps bring you in from the rough stormy seas of life, and it remains even after you have gone.
