Tell me about some good books you've read lately. In fact, be open to discussion about them. Yes!
I'll start. After a week of purchasing it, I have finished reading the new Robert Jordan book, Knife of Dreams. I love it! So much stuff got wrapped up in this book that I really feel has been severly drawn out.

i give up on WoT until the series ends. i'm convinced that if i stay up to date on reading it, he'll die before the series is completed.
that, and since another book is released every year to two years, i forget half of the 2136234 plot lines going on by the time i read the new one.
that said, the last things i read were (i tend to read a graphic novel between every two books):
Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return by Marjana Satrapi
Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris
The Lost Continent: Travels in Small-Town America by Bill Bryson
The Maxx by Sam Keith
Famous Pictures of Naked People by Jon Stewart
A Field Guide to the Urban Hipster by Josh Aiello
Marshal Law: Fear and Loathing by Pat Mills, Kevin O'Neill _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!
With a high-pitched cry, The Modan Kucho collapses in death. |

I'm with Yaru on the Wheel of Time. I can't stand waiting for book to book, I'm just gonna wait until the series ends to buy the rest, I've read up to Path of Daggers.
I have quite a collection of books(over 300 last time I counted) as I never resell them after buying them. I'm the type that can read books over again even though I've already read them if they are good enough.
The first novel I read that got me into fantasy literature was 'A Spell for Chameleon' by Piers Anthony. It was the first book of the Xanth series.
Recently I just finished 'Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn' by Tad Williams and am currently finishing 'Mistress of the Empire' by Raymond E. Feist. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

A Spell for Chameleon was an amazing book. The series went down the drain, befuddled with puns, but I still try to keep up. _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |

I keep on top of R.A. Salvatore's various series (FR or no) and just finished the last Drizzt book over the summer.
I also read this and recommend it. _________________ Mickey Brunner

I dunno Mickey, that blurb reads a lot like a sideplot of Hitchiker's Guide... _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |

If Douglas Adams wrote about rock and roll icons and a motorcycle named "Peggy Sue", then, yes. _________________ Mickey Brunner

As much as I love Jordan, I just couldn't get through the 10th book, it was just boring. I have the new one waiting to be read if I can ever get through the other one.
The book that I recommend is Neil Gaiman's latest, Anansi Boys, it totally rocks! And if you haven't read American Gods yet, do that too

I agree, the 10th one is by far the worst. It's a bunch of followup with really no actual story progression. I guess that's what makes Knife of Dreams so...interesting.
Oh, and for a little teaser, Thom reveals the letter Moiraine had given to him. _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |

Xanth and it's 9 book triologies are great. I got up all the way to Color of Her Panties before I switched toe Anthony's Mode Series...and then to his Adept Series (Which I loved best of all)... I guess I grew out of Piers Anthony. I haven't touched any since Highschool...
One of his best books is Caterpiller which is a collaboration with another author.
Oh, and I suggest "Magic Kingdom of Landover For Sale -- Sold!" Too cute. Terry Brooks if I believe. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

I've been behind on my "classical" literature for awhile now. Here're my latest reads:
"1984," by George Orwell (more of a re-read, really)
"Brave New World," by Aldous Huxley
"Catcher in the Rye," by J.D. Salinger (re-read)
"Terrorism and Communism," by Leon Trotsky
"The ABC of Communism," by Nikolai Bukharin
"Mere Christianity," by C.S. Lewis
"The Republic," by Plato
"Capital : Volume 1: A Critique of Political Economy," by Karl Marx
"Beyond Good and Evil," by Friedrich Nietzsche
I'm waffling between moving onto "Mein Kampf" (it might be interesting), "American Gods" and "Neuromancer". I might go with "American Gods" now that Morrigan recommends it.

Has anyone read the Cryptonomicon, Snow Crash, or anything else written by that guy? I can't remember his name right now.
Also, Kit, Piers did another book with an unknown author called Dream a Little Dream, it's about Lucid Dreaming but an extremely engaging novel. I recommend it. _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |
