Just a reminder to some of you that interacting with GMPCs will have IC responses. This is not, as some people would like to label it, a case of a GM 'abusing their powers'. This is a case of a GMPC (be it merchant or something else entirely) role-playing. You are expected to role-play and at times even rewarded for that.

If they are the nice, friendly type (like Adelaide), probably about the worst you are going to see is the word 'No'.

If they are an illegal drug smuggling agent (like Szetgtek), it could be anything from a quiet conversation to outright death if you irritate him too badly.

It is up to you how you wish to interact with these people, just accept the consequences of your actions.

To just drop in with absolutely no background, and kill a character that is known to be a pain to start with, more then deserved what he got... but still no lead up, no story. What else would one expect in an environment where GM-involved RP is nearly nonexistant lately?

Can you really jump to such conclusions with the way things have been going lately?

he has a background. you know those drugs that gave the user stat bonii according to the critter they represented? he's the guy who smuggled them in at the last festival.

he's a drug smuggler, and honestly he's the kind of guy you don't want to look at sideways.

and regardless of that, why would someone start a fight with someone they don't know just based on the fact "that can't possibly be someone strong."

that's just silly.

Just because you have no recollection of a back story doesn't mean there isn't one. I know of at least three players who are well aware of who Szetgtek is...and what he does.

Let me say this. I'm not upset with anyone, I just don't want people jumping to incorrect conclusions.

As for Szetgtek, he'll be back...a lot...before the festival. He's got....business...in town. And he's not unbeatable, for those of you who might be seeking vengeance, but he is definitely a 'badass'. So enjoy the role-playing. Wink

PS: For any wondering, the reason he assasinated Glim today was for the following (edited for 'noise' reasons):

Code:
You casually observe the area.
>
You are feeling relaxed.
>
Josie Laurens glances at you.
>
You stare at Josie Laurens.
>
Josie Laurens asks, "What?"
>
You say, "You looked at me, I looked at you."
>
Glim Faethyn closes his eyes and seems to be concentrating on something intently.
>
Glim Faethyn says, "My turn."
>
Glim Faethyn whistles.
>
Glim Faethyn stares intently at you.
Your body locks solid and you are completely unable to move!
>
Josie Laurens grins.
>
Josie Laurens says, "I wanna stare like that."
>
You shake off the stun.
>
Josie Laurens looks at Glim Faethyn and sighs.
>
You say, "That was a really bad mistake."
>
You become one with the shadows and disappear from sight.
Roundtime: 2 sec.
>
Glim Faethyn casually glances around the area.
>
Glim Faethyn says, "Calm down. Not going to kill you. Yet."

The drug smuggler was around during the Darju fest...and he's always been fun. Kit got to be a little sly with him earlier, which was an immensely good time. One of those: "Oh, so we can play at being coy...I'll pretend I don't know you...heh..."

My question is, will he have his drugs on him before the fest Laughing

Psh. Other people have been killed for less in the lands of HR. Would have been nice to see a bit more depth to the RP though. Glim just had to ruin it heh.

It's nice to know that he's not unbeatable though as most other games I've played made all their GMPC's that way(unbeatable that is), one of the biggest things I hated about DR.

If he were unbeatable, Glim wouldn't have been able to paralyze him. Wink

Pretend for a moment that we lived, and I mean this in real life terms,... in a world where lawlessness prevailed to some point. Think the wild west or older ages, or even remote areas of the world today.

If you come across someone you don't know and you try to harm them and you end up dead for it, should that be a surprise? Of course not.

This is a role-playing game. While choosing to engage in RP is optional, being responsible for your actions is not.

Most paralysis attacks from Glim are met with...not much. So yes...it was a bit of a surprise. Wink

Unbeatable by Glim alone, at least. Powerful enough to one-shot him(looked like a backstab, not certain though) means he'll probably not get scuffed much even when stunned. Razz

I think that higher level players can become accustomed used to the idea of having power over most of the populace and if they decide to make an example of that person, well, there's nothing they can do about it. I don't think this is completely healthy for the game if said higher level player has complete immunity from their actions aside from other high level players they might have a sort of truce with anyway.

That said, this GMPC wasn't out looking for someone to kill. Glim's actions changed the course of the plan, and it was the most fitting response for a GM RPing a character with high skill levels. If it had been one of my staff playing a high level character that attacked the GMPC and the GMPC killed them I'd say the same thing. "You earned it." Of course, staff have the luxury of knowing what characters are GMPC's but this is unavoidable, and is more of a hindrance than a luxury, as most of us would prefer to be able to completely immerse ourselves like players can.

Definetly agree it was an earned death. Just caught off guard by the sudden one-shot. Wink

Glim has been paralysing people, regardless of their level, ever since he first acquired the psionic.

He'll actually finish the job, next time he hits someone with it.

It'd be nice to have more aggresive high level characters out there.(Not necessarily staff-run)
