Since I can't tell if HR is down because my connection is wonky or if the sever is just down or whatever, it would rock if there was some kind of status bar or something located somewhere.

We'd taken it down unexpectedly. We've been having some problems with the connection the last several days - this has been going on intermittently for the entire two years and counting we've used comcast... anyway, short notice tech came out this morning, replaced the router with a much more noise-tolerant model, which I hope will curb this. Game is up and fine now.

is it possible that we can get something on the page that just automatically updates to show if the server is active or not, though? it would definitely cut back on people IMing everyone, or posting, or whatever to see if it's them or the server.
another MUD i check out time to time has this on the homepage:

as far as i know, it updated automatically (because since i was helping them test out bugs, i'd crash the server rather often at like 3am when noone else was on to actually manually change it).
it definitely helped me know if they were messed up or if i was all those times i couldn't connect.

Oh, I'm sure we could. It's just VERY rare we have HR down but the webserver up. I do as little of that as humanly possible to minimize downtime.
