Since the RT of search increases significantly the more times you use it in the same area I think that the odds of finding anyone in the same room should also increase in favor of the searcher significantly as well.

Not sure how it would work. Perhaps the first search starts with base stats and skills. (Perception + Streetwise or Tracking)

And with each search after the initial the searcher would gain a bonus in their stats and skills, an unseen bonus. Stealth is far far too powerful in HR, and I think there needs to be some deterent to its abuse. Nobody should be able to stay hidden forever when someone keeps searching and searching over and over.

Also, Agents and Trackers would be 'penalized' less in their respective habitats.

Bumpity bump. Does anyone else think this is a good idea? Stealth is way overpowered in HR, anyone with enough stealth is virtually invisible.

Code:
You carefully search the area and find...
   Absolutely nothing.

There can only be so many places in a room to hide, more in some than others I'm sure but the extra RT could easily be interpretted as: looking more closely and searching more carefully.

personally I think the dramatic RT increase and inevitable inability to search anymore is bad bad bad

I also thought agents got less of an RT build up than the common person when searching, I may be thinking of something else but it doesnt seem to be the case if so

I went from 2 seconds 4 times, then 4, 6, 11, 14, 17,26,30 then no longer able to search

Seems very extreme to me, and would really hurt in PVP combat against somone who likes to hide, attack, hide

1. Overpowered cybergear stealth was just fixed. I don't believe stealth is overpowered anymore.
2. Unless you are right on the cusp of being able to find someone, repeat searching is not and should not find them. If you ARE on the cusp, repeat searching will already find them, regardless of increased RT. I've tested this, so I'm not just blowing smoke.

So no, I don't agree. I don't think searching more should equate to better perceptive skills/stats.

What is right on the cusp exactly?

Stilldawn has 240 streetwise or so and 110 perception. That's vs. Tshar's 260 stealth and with repeated searching she couldn't find him. I think the fine line of whatever cusp you're talking about is a bit too fine considering with like stats and skills reversed, Tshar finds her in hiding.

Well, considering you are leaving off comparing EVERYTHING that affects stealth and searching, you aren't going to get results that are to your liking.

Bottom line is, overpowered stealth is fixed (and yes this means I got downtweaked a lot too), but it is. And I don't agree with increasing perceptive stat/skills based on how many searches someone has done. Based on your example, 10th level Joe Newb could find me eventually...like that's realistic.

What other stats and skills are involved in finding someone in hiding? I thought it was streetwise/tracking + perception vs. stealth + agility maybe? You seem to be an expert in the mechanics, so enlighten me please.

Also, I wasn't suggesting that the increased amounts would be infinite, there would be a low cap for sure. But it does indeed make sense that someone searching the same room over and over and over and over again would eventually find someone if their skill is decent.

Or through pure accident!

Indeed. There could be some sort of 'fumble' search, some kinda luck factor.

Actually, a 3 year old will eventually find an invisible person figuring that they swing their arms enough. That is what they are trying to say is happening when you search multiple times, and it would take longer for you to be found.

Note: Realism is a double-edged sword.

Cloud Court (as an example) is a pretty large area if it houses a wall, some structures, a vendor and a fountain large enough to climb. It would stand to reason that while you're busy searching in one location, the hidden person that you've turned your back toward [because you not only don't know their location, but also have no idea of their intent] could "realistically" shoot you in the back of the head, no defense, no save, die die; regardless of level disparity. I've a good hunch the message board would light up like Grand Central Station the first night a 1st level bureaucrat executed a 100th level character.

I have to agree with Mickey on most of that but I do think something is a lil screwy still, and wouldnt mind seeing the margin a little bit wider

Perhaps different levels of searching could be implemented. Like, search carefully. If you don't find anything the first time you search, regardless of what level, you won't find the hider. But you have a better chance when searching carefully.

I'm no more expert than you, I've just done a LOT of testing and playing around with it. I like being stealthy.

For starters, mentality (you know, the whole 'focusing hard on a difficult task' thing) plays a part in it. I'm sure you can figure it out from there.

I still don't see that anything is broken, messed up, or needs changing, although I do think an auto-death strike against someone repeatedly searching would be awesome.
