Yeah we have students from Tulane here, and apparently several hundred "refugees" staying at the coliseum where they're supposed to be hosting a career fair next week. That should be interesting. _________________ ** The phrase "break a leg" just wasn't ambitious enough for Mellie Knight. [8:31 pm]

Photo Journal
Here's a link I gleaned off another forum. It's roughly 200 photos that someone took over the first five days (and I believe the day before) of Katrina. It's interesting to see how things gradually progressed as opposed to the "OMG IT WAS SO SUDDEN!" mentality the television networks offer.

i think what was unacceptable to me as an outsider looking in .. when the president ask for evacuation of the areas in the destruction path he failed to provide any transport for the poorer families . so basically if you was poor , elderly or disabled you had no way of getting out befor katrina arrived . if this was anywhere else where you where left to die because of your monetary or physical circumstances failing to fit ,we would call it ethnic cleansing but thats just my views on the matter. |
I definately don't want to get into a political debate. Noone agrees with me anyway, which is fine. But..... At the first sign of this hurricane the LOCAL government (NOT the President) was supposed to load School and City busses with the poor and elderly. Those busses not only were NOT loaded, but they weren't even fueled up. I'm sorry, but I blame the mayor and the governor FIRST.
As far as evacuuees.... we have TONS here. I live in the town where the University of North Texas is and also Texas Women's University who are both accepting students. The children go to my child's school and we have hired evaccuees where I work. I have never been so proud to be born and raised in Texas. I work in a resteraunt where we feed them for free. Alot of them don't plan to go back to Louisiana at all.
