|

Hello Everyone!
In the not to distant future, all armor will go through some slight changes.
1) All armor (Light and Heavy) will eventually need to be repaired. This includes: store bought, player-crafted, and any armor bought from a merchant.
There will be varying degrees of damage to armor, and note that if left unrepaired the armor does stand a very good chance of becoming damaged beyond repair. Once armor is to this point, it will become practically ineffective.
2) Artisans will have the capabilities to repair both Light and Heavy armor.
There will also be a NPC that will repair armor, but be forewarned that he is a moody old man and may not always repair the armor to a perfect condition.
3) The current Light armor system will undergo a few changes, and some new elements will be added. Trackers will be able to create the most desirable light armor.
4) Mickey and I will also be introducing a new armoring system that will allow players to craft heavy armor. Troopers will be able to create the most desirable heavy armor.
5) Artisans will be able to enhance armors (player-crafted - light and heavy) with different design techniques. A few examples of what to expect are etching, painting, tooling, etc..
P.S. Trackers and Troopers will have the ability to add special elements to armor they craft. What those elements are...well you will just have to wait to find out. _________________ ~Well behaved women rarely make history~

AWESOME! Now just to tie Yaru up somewhere when this comes out.
Ever since Mellie was a level 1 Artisan I've been looking foward to weapon and armor repair. Can't wait Valla! |

Snitch! Snitch! What happened to keeping it a secret?!?
Edit: One extra thing -- "the most desirable armor" does not include exo-shell. _________________ Mickey Brunner

yeah but i was an artisan from the start miss took-a-break-and-became-a-guardian! I WANT IT MORE!
and i love anything that gives me a reason to have 200 (240) repair.
ps: oh, and is it possible for a light armor pattern that does full body armor to come out? as in:
Code: |
It appears this armor provides protection for the entire body. |
that would totally rock 110%. with ninjas and guitars and everything. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Sway makes "unbelievable quality" armor.
Just thought I'd throw that out there. _________________ An eye for an eye; but my eye's worth more.

If, somewhere along the way, we include an armor material type that is compatible for full suit light armor, yes. As of right now though, none of the craftable leather types can be used to do so. _________________ Mickey Brunner

full body armor isn't just armor + helm + mask?
i didn't know there were special materials that had to be used. the things i learn. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

You can feasibly wear all three (I think.. the mask and helm might possibly overlap on the head), but there's no compatibility for a unified one-piece set.
To illustrate what I mean by "compatibility", I'll put in non-mechanic terms...
Imagine a compiled list of armor 'materials' of all types (cloth, hard leather, vyeftium, etc, all the way down to enercell), all with predefined abstract behaviors of that specific material. One of these is the piece(s) of armor that can be made from it; a working example of this would be how ringmail can't be used in the current crafting system to make head gear of any variety, or boots/gloves. The lack of full suit armor presently wasn't an arbitrary decision, it was simply the luck of the draw with the materials we made available for armorcrafting (all leathers, in the case of the existing armorcrafting system). _________________ Mickey Brunner

oh, okay. i wasn't aware that certain types of finalized leather (like ringmail) couldn't be used on everything.
now i'm wondering what enercell is. we should get a list of all the cool armor material types. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Enercell is exo-shell armor, which was never completed. Super mega heavy duty trooper stuff, basically. If it fell on Yaru, he'd be squished.
But about full body armor: When it really comes down to it, full body armor doesn't actually exist in the real world at all. You think of it in some cases, like say a suit of platemail, but a suit of platemail is many pieces assembled together to give complete protection -- the same you can do now with several pieces of cloth, leather, metal or wooden armor.
At some point in designing stuff, I associated some specific materials with armor types that were permitted, and some aren't permitted for full suits. Nothing against someone in a full leather suit, it just wasn't a very typical sort of arrangement, by earth standards anyway. Likewise, you can't have, say, a cloth full helm, or a cloth visored helm. Obviously, it just doesn't make sense.
When it comes to armor, some of these armors (the ones we tend to use more often) I took a very medieval fantasy game style approach to it. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

oh, i wouldn't expect full body armor to be uber-grade or anything.
it's more that i personally prefer having one thing of armor to wear as opposed to a lot of stuff. it just cuts down on the look description, and i try to be a minimalist. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Pfft. Mellie was an Artisan from birth to level 30 and was very very very clear on the fact she would end up one. And it was a Trooper, not Guardian. The entire reason for going to Trooper was pulse weapons and as we all know, Guardians can't play with them. |

will light armor ever matter in the equation in the near future/long term? _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!
