Someone actually found a high/perfect chip for me so I could put together my second ever perfect comm! Yay! Is there anyway for higher level techs to be able to do better at comm assembly then the lower levels? I remember that at level 15 for Zachary he could get near-perfect comms...same as me. It's nice that gadget quality relies on part, but it would also be nice if it relied on skill. A really high up there tech should be able to take mediocre parts and still make a perfect quality gadget. There's nothing, currently, in this profession to work for. I'd installed the best of everything in the droid, can do all upgrades...I do want to hit 80th for that awesome title...but that's about it. Perhaps making perfect and near perfect achievable only to those around Infierna's level would give me something to work for. Or maybe just harder gadgets?

If we get harder gadgets I'd hope the current ones would be lowered in difficulty and whatnot. Constructing a thermonuclear device and still messing up on a flashlight would be... wrong.

Flashlights and comms ARE really easy. A 15th (maybe lower) tech can make a near-perfect communicator. Flashlights might be even easier to make.

You still have a chance to mess up quite often even with capped skill. Maybe I just need to cap my craftsmanship. Last night I messed up twice on a comm and made a few perfect flashlights.

I've never had problems on perfect flashlights. And perfect comms are only really impossible because you need perfect chips for buttons. It's all in the parts.

I think that with more skill and level, a tech should be able to repair a damaged component to like near or perfect.

You can't repair chips is the only problem. And I can understand that. Perhaps we could...remelt it? Or cut out the nasty bits and then remelt it?

I considered letting the chips be repairable, but then that would decrease their rarity. I heard them referred to as the 'holy grail', and that made me grin. Wink

Flash/droidlights and comms are easy to make, and there will be harder gadgets later on, for sure. And if I ever get around to getting vehicles approved and letting you guys make them, well... those'll be crazy tough. Wink

LOL. Oh, I did add another low quality chip, another medium quality chip, and 2 more high quality chips, FYI.

...Is there any bonus, at all, to having a perfect comm? My sturdy one seems to work just fine.

At the moment, no. They all work exactly the same....

Flashlights/droidlights already work like this, and I plan on making tech-made comms work the same way:

Based on the quality and workmanship put into them, there will be chance for them to sputter out and die. The crappier the gadget, the more likely it is to suddenly die on you. Conversely, the better the gadget, the less likely it will be to suddenly shut off -- and if the gadget is perfectly made, it won't ever randomly shut off.

Once things like cyberware and other gadgets are able to be created, the quality of the parts used and the workmanship put into it will factor into their usefulness as well. Cyberware may be able to hold more bonuses, receive extra chip slots, higher internal capacity and whatnot. I still have to work out the details. Wink
