Assuming these are to continue showing up.

Can we get them renamed? It's rather annoying to suddenly find oneself being beat down by something one was seemingly demolishing moments before.

Perhaps seperate them into 'Lesser' and 'Greater' varieties?

Example:

You also see a greater shadow elemental, a lesser water elemental, a greater fire elemental and a lesser shadow elemental.

This way I know which I just shouldn't bother with. Razz

At this point I don't have any plans to modify their strengths, resistances, or whatever. They've been pretty much the same since I settled on a happy, deadly, medium that first night.

following the whole risk/reward thing...

...what's the point of fighting elementals, as opposed to just running away like a nancy boy?

they don't drop anything, as far as i know of.

i mean, elementals are cool to fight, and they're a good challenge, but i'm not sure what the reward for kicking butt is yet. :p

You get a medal that reads: "I killed a <insert type here> elemental".

EDIT: A cool idea would be to have a unique treasure for each elemental. Like elemental shards or something. A rare drop but worth a decent amount of money. What's decent? $10k a shard? I dunno. . .

I am fine with their stats.

There are, however, two varieties of elementals wandering about.

The first, which typically 'start' an invasion, are relatively weak. I can use Paralysis on them. I can Mind Wipe them. I can kill them fairly easily.

The second, which spawn in the shrines and(like last night) consist of a 'second wave' I cannot use Paralysis on. I cannot Mind Wipe. I cannot kill.

They both look exactly the same.

Since I am guessing this is unintentional...I suppose renaming one variety doesn't matter. Just get rid of one. Razz

In case it helps: I noticed the second variety appeared shortly after Zamde played that hippy peace song.

This occured at approximately 8:53PM, EST. Wink

Yea, Tshar was killing the shadow elementals then all of a suddenl he couldn't hit them and they start landing critical hits and shit. So annoying.

The only recent change made to the elementals that I know of applies to the shadow ones only...they no longer are susceptible to paralysis.

As for box dropping, while shards are not a bad idea, I'm thinking that 10k is just....really messed up as a figure. They're non-corporeal beings most of the time, and not even really aware of things going on in this world, except for some of the more powerful ones who just don't like folks different from them.

If I had my druthers, shadow elementals would attack other elementals along with people, and the guards would attack anything with negative alignment that moved past. But this isn't something the combat system can handle at this point, and I don't feel comfortable asking Marduk to drop everything he's doing to add it. Unless he just really wants to, then I'll give him a lap dance or something.

The thing about elementals is....like any other creature, they're going to occasionally hit anyone, and chances are they're going to hit hard when they do. I've noticed that its very rare for them to NOT stun on the first hit.

When dealing with elementals, its always best to work together in groups, and I saw some splendid groupwork last night...something that isn't always required of you during an invasion.

So how do you explain that we, those who were fighting them, noticed their sudden increase in power\strength? It couldn't have been luck, there's no way it could have gone from being able to hit them and parry\defend decently against them ----> to not being able to hit them AT ALL and getting hit consectutively with no chance of defense. That's how it was for Tshar, they got stronger, there's no doubt there. He was aiming and hitting them just fine, then suddenly he couldn't hit them at all, fully aimed shots while kneeling, no chance, tried many many times.

Kneeling helps in shooting?

From what I can tell, it does indeed. Everytime I shoot a few times standing, missing, I try kneeling and hit. Luck? Who knows, but results say it all.

EDIT: Credit goes to Yaru for teaching me the kneeling thing. I let him test it IG and Yaru can hit Tshar with a fully aimed shot from missile but only if he's kneeling. That's 212 marks vs 253 evasion with like stats on both ends.

If feelings are really this hard over critters that can (gasp!) hurt you, consider this fair warning not to hunt in my new area once it opens.

I think the stink is coming up over how a group of people were able to attack the elementals with relative ease, and then all of the sudden they were uber-hard to attack. Not that people were actually getting hit/injured.

I'm just going to offer the option that everyone could've just been having really shitty luck with their rolls. Coincidences do happen.
