Given the amount of active techs (Thorne, Infierna, Kit, Zap, and less frequently Enverdi and sometimes Gabriel), could techs say, 50th level and above get the option of buying workshop space on a long term scale? This could include a locker for parts, but we couldn't be able to just drop stuff off there or treat it like an extra vault.
Anyhow, the tech could rent and/or buy a room for say...a month at a time for a pretty sizeable sum of money. It would be a cushier room...a couch could be included. And maybe it could be customizable....say when you buy your workroom (think locker for this part), the first time you open it, it gives you the option of what you want things made out of, the colors, materials, the sorts of chairs, etc). There could be several choices to customize your room. And it could put text on the door...say 15-20 characters. That way, when you go up the stairs, you'd see something like: "A black door with a chrome plate that says "ElectriCat" on it."
Just a thought. I want an office. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Yes it does. But houses could be a long way off...and I don't want to have Kit's office be in his home. This would be more like...an office building. Kinda. Will techs be able to get workshops added onto homes? _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

"A suggestion no one will like"
I like it. But the same sort of thing should then also be available for alchemy labs, crafty things (tailoring) and such. Besides the labs and the work rooms, are there any other rooms that are rentable? If there are, that option should be available to them as well.
What you're suggesting is akin to the Trader stalls in DR. Basically, rentable shops, except with tools and stuff necessary to make things on-site. I have no opposition to it as an idea, I just don't see it happeneing, at least before LIVE. _________________ --Zap

Concidering Kit and Zap live in the workroom, constantly having to renew it is just...a tad annoying. ^.^ I'm sure alchemists feel the same way. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

You're right, I don't like it.
You're essentially asking for more storage space that will more than likely get abused one way or another. You already have a vault that can be expanded to hold a great deal of items (that are held by quantity, not weight!). You can get up to around 130 pounds of carryable weight, and that's just with a backpack and not counting all of the other capped containers one can carry on their person.
I bet you would come back and say that you'd want the workshop storage facility to be restricted to just gadget parts. To which I reply: gadgets are not the only crafting system around town. If the workshop got a special storage area, all of the other crafting systems should get a similar storage area. Alchemy, armorcrafting, tailoring. (Sorry to drag other peoples' names into this, but they're the best examples I can think of) I bet Lynettia wouldn't mind having a special locker to throw all of her alchemical components in; I bet Yaru wouldn't mind having a special locker to throw all of his tailoring things in. The point is, not everything is supposed to be easy in the game. You have to pick and choose what you're going to have on you at any given time. If you had more strength/vitality, I doubt you'd continuously be pining over extra storage space.
Actually, this is really just in response to the special locker itself. Which you've brought up in two (maybe three? four?) threads already. I have no problem with these specialty rooms being rentable for long periods of time at once. I just hope they're incredibly expensive... and with no guarantee that you'll get it back the next month (haha, owned, waiting lists).

If I remember right, the labs were changed specifically so that people didn't "live" in them or treat them as a secondary vault. _________________ Stay true to yourself no matter the cost and you'll always know who you are. |

Please reread my post.
I said: You can't store stuff here.

Drake has already said he might be giving us a parts locker in the future. He said that in another post. And it was ONE other post William. Jeez.
Please, the three of you, attempt to READ THE POST before you comment. And I was thinking of this being more of a Live thing anyhow.
Drake said this:
Quote: |
No.. probably not. I think I'm going to install lockers that can only store gadgets and gadget components, though. |

So, what exactly is the point behind having a locker that you can't store stuff inside? Do you mean just having something to throw all of your gadget components in for the time you'll be repairing them for? That's kind of a waste of code, I would think, given that you can easily use a fifty-pound box from the post office. Or any other number of containers found around town (or tailored).
My complaint still stands, though, for the gadget-only lockers Drake said he was thinking of putting in. I mean, it really is rather unfair that one crafting system would get a special storage area while none of the others get to have one. While I suppose the thought could be thrown around that it adds a flare of uniqueness to Technicians, it still defeats the purpose of being concerned with burden and vault space.

Really not trying to be snotty, but you're the one who always says that each system can't be a cookie cutter system of another. I would LOVE to have a tailoring workshop for my artisan, but there isn't one. Tanning has workshops not many people use...I could see it for alchemy. If I were you, I'd fight to get tailoring workrooms so everything can be fair. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

I won't deny ever having said that... because I more than likely did at one point or another, as it is a good standard to go by... but storage space really has nothing to do with systems themselves. They would be add-ons, or expansions, to current systems. Sort of like how you don't really need an alchemy lab, since everything (I believe) you need can be bought from the store.
I mean, gah. Is it so hard to see that storage space -- even limited to just gadget parts -- is quite the hefty "present" to recieve? Unless they're limited to a relatively small amount (like, ten) pieces, I'd always be against it unless all crafting systems shared in the glory.

Maybe people want to keep their parts after they're repaired. |

You could still use multiple containers for that.

I think there's a limit to how much one can reasonably expect or even hope for, in sake of their specific profession. Getting extra locker space no one else gets, and your own workshops, for example, seems excessive. The workshops would be fine if they're public, but private workshops? In homes sure, but that's it. If you don't want a workshop in your home, you'll need to do your work in public.
Adding a major system because another major system will take a while is also not a good design plan. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato
