I actually posted this to SIMU's DR game about a year ago..and I just thought of it again, so why not post it here!
Talents. Talents are one thing a person can't choose and doesn't know about it until it's discovered. It's a random skill assigned to a person. For instance, a trooper could find out that he gets MAD bonuses to singing and, directly from out of the CM, he has a nice voice.
This can work for any skill. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

its an interesting idea. I'm not overly sure how the creation system works, but I can see people doing mad rerolls starting out to get a specific talent. I can also already head the unending whining and complaining of those people with higher level characters because they get some mad bonus to something they never use. While its a very cool idea and I think it would rock, it may be one of those "wait till live" ideas if at all. also not sure how the coding would work on it... so yeah. I like the idea, just putting it in I think might cause complications.

This would be something implemented in Live when everyone has to reroll anyway. And with no reallocations, there's no such thing as a reroll. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Actually, there is a REROLL command. It starts your character over completely. I believe this will still be around in Live.

Aah. Well, even if people did reroll, finding out what their talent is when there's no more bonus modifier listed to skills will be...difficult. It'll definately be something fun to discover! _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

The only bad thing about something you inherently have without choosing is that some people will undoubtedly feel ripped off by what they get and think some other player got it lucky. That's not a big deal for a short term event/situation but for a lifetime one, it's more of an issue. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

So your idea is for it to be an invisible bonus?
And that was kinda what I was thinking as well to quote Trevor _________________ I'm not grumpy |

I believe Trevor said that once we get Nskills, we won't see bonuses anymore...which means sense magic will actually come in handy. A talent would be like a built in bonus...but you won't know what it is until you stumble upon it. If you ever do. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

I wasnt aware of that. I havent been following it too too closely actually, so I'd really like to hear the specifics on if bonuses will still be visible or not for sure. If trevor has time to comment on that I'd appreciate that.
Without being able to see the bonus I can see it being more interesting _________________ I'm not grumpy |

Here, Trevor mentions that neither the new SKILLS nor the new INFO verbs will show bonuses. Unless things have changed, that includes after the beta skill change and in Live. |

Considering that right now Trackers get a random stance at a certain level instead of being able to choose one, and that I've reallocated so I've gotten to try them, and I've actually considered reallocating again just to try and get poudrach back...
No, I think this would be a very bad idea. I really do not like random possibilities when it comes to what my character is 'good' at. _________________

i dislike random boons because:
1) i like having controls as to how my chracter is developed. like i wanted the fragile flaw. if traits/flaws were random, for example, for all i know i'd end up with yaru getting the robust trait, or something.
2) i also know that people are powerplayers and will try to screw with the system to make the random factors more in tune with what they want. so that encourages poor roleplay, because many people don't want to have to have their character feel apt at something they didn't choose. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!
