I wish I still had reallocations so I could try new things. I used all three of mine right away, for retarded things.

Reallocate 1 = Fishing, Which I hated the day after.
Reallocate 2 = Mini Golf, which broke later that day.
Reallocate 3 = Photography, which I stopped doing when I lost my collection

And as for just getting a pay account to try new things, not all of us are priveliged enough to afford a pay account.

::digs up an old thread::

trevor, you mentioned giving advance warning for the new system in order to allow people read over things and know what to prepare for.

i'd love for reallocations to be shut off at the same time as that announcement.

it bothers me that people will start abandoning professions to what they 'really' want to be, mainly because there are quite a few people i would view as bad apples in certain professions right now not because they like them, but because they're the best for making money.

such people don't deserve the chance to go back to being what they intend to play as.

I'll bet you my banjo that the next handful of outraged, indignant posts will be the people most adversely affected (as well as most applicably described) by it.

Yaru, the sounds a little...hateful. If people have reallocations, they should be allowed to try em. Why not? They're there for people to experiment with, right? Not everyone has two accounts, like me, that rolls up new characters to try things out with. Your idea just sounds vindictive.

I think what Yaru is talking about is not people trying out different professions. It's people being X profession, switching to another get make money easier, get access to poisons, or whatever, and then planning on switching back to their original profession when they've milked the cow dry. Obviously anyone doing the latter can claim to be doing the former which complicates things.

Hm, yes, I read that wrong.

You mean I should be reallocating to something that I can make money in while I still have a chance? Shocked

Kidding! I'm kidding!

exactly. ontop of it being very sleazy to do in the first place, i'm also quite sure it upsets game balance and economy moreso than it already is. i don't think these people should be given the opportunity to reallocate back to what they'd prefer being.

i'm a bitter angry bastard Wink

We're not as cluelessly oblivious to player motive as some players would like to think (or wish?) we are.

I need some more reallocations. I want to have used up at least 10 by the time they're gone.

Reallocations are very sweet. I wasnt overly aware of some of the ways they were used till recently. I've been several professions, but as a general rule, I've stayed that profession for a good long while. I enjoy being able to reallocate in that making a level 1.. random selection. mercenary. That doesnt tell me anything about being a mercenary. a level 1 merc is about the same as a level 1 trooper, as a level 1 any combat class. What I like about reallocations is that I can say. I wonder what a trooper is like, and see what a level 30 trooper is like, seeing the bonuses in action, or as a mercenary, seeing how the techs play out for me. Being able to see those skills and decide if its 1) somethign I would like to stay or 2) somethig I would want to dedicate time towards building up a character in. As far as reallocations go when this change takes place do I think they should still exist, Yes. Someone mentioned to me some things and I dont remember if it was already covered, but

One per character
Nontransferable
penalty.

the first two should be put in place to prevent any.. abuse of the system, and the third just makes sense. I can train x number of skills with skill points. everythign else is based off actual, in the field experience., and that would be lost.

If theres a "pool" that you spend points out of to learn, that should go away (exp loss), lose the skills youve gained through practice (point loss)

I know I am a big pusher for, "get to live, and dont worry about..." and honestly, this is one of them. It would be nice to have that one chance in there, buth for messing up, and for new people who get in and really want that change, but its not somethign thats worth the staff spending 2 weeks doing, and pushing back live that 2 weeks so that people can still have a reallocation in beta. I do think however, the one single reallocation would completely curb the abuse. The possibility is still there if people plan for it, but as far as abuse after that point, that wouldnt be an issue.

Anyway, I'm also known for long winded babbles too i think, so sorr if you had to pick your way through me saying the same thing over and over to get a couple points out. to recap

Reallocations can still be good, with certain limitations. Most important. One reallocation only and no donating reallocations.

Sean

I am a firm believer that if you do not play a profession since level 1, you can not entirely know it. You have to build up experience to use things and getting all these cool powers all at once makes that impossible.

I've played an artisan up to 19th anyhow. And most artisan skills are gained at lower levels. The only artisan only thing I can think of is weaving. My 27th tracker's been doing tailoring since I made her. Kit use to sculpt. It's good enough.
