i hate base skill checks, mainly because it negates the natural 'forever' bonuses (be it racial, profession, or whatever) as well as the temporary ones (spellsongs, fires, etc). _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

...For an Artisan to be able to even begin to restore items they must first meet the level requirement after that the skill requirement. The skill needed for various items will fluctuate though the level requirement will stay constant. This ability is a special ability that an Artisan becomes capable of performing at that specific Level. _________________ ~Well behaved women rarely make history~

Do you have to affix it to something in order to find out what it does? |

is there a way for us to tell when we hit the skill level that allows us to begin restoring?
right now the messaging i get is "You are unable to grasp the concept of how to repair this item." do we get something different once we hit the skill level where we can start restoring, yet are unable to restore that exact relic? _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Well..., as of right now the way it works is that it checks to see if you pass the level req, if you pass that then it checks to see if you pass the skill requirement. So if you fail either of those you will get that message. It does go off of raw skill when seeing whether or not you meet the requirement, and if you do then your bonus in the skill would kick in.
Regarding your situation, you pass the level req, just not the skill check.
Remember that the repair skill has a major factor in being able to (restore) the item. _________________ ~Well behaved women rarely make history~

Update 2/2/05
A new restorable (and researchable) item is available in the field. |
On a side note, I also added three pricey new relics. _________________ Mickey Brunner

How does the research thing work? I can't research the standard, the links, the thurble, the case...nothing in the research library. Or are these things non-researchable? _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

the links can't be researched.
before you research the standard, it has to be repaired.
i'm not sure if anyone can research it, but i know only artisans (with 120 repair+) can gain the ability to restore.
any information researched is added to the look description of the item, though. so if i find out something is used by the howling ninja monkeys of east Haelrahv, then you'll see that in the look description.
so what's the new items? i wanna restore stuff! damn being in school tutoring. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

One's a delicately-chained silver thurible...the other might be a cracked glazed vase. Unless that's been there for awhile. Mickey said the thurible is new though. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

The research library, more or less, serves as a tool to help you determine what certain recovered items are capable of, via outlining their history. The regular items don't really have any historic merit (outside of valuable antiquity), the links are dated after they're restored, and the relics (the thurible being one) are mostly well-preserved (and a lot more valuable) one-shots. _________________ Mickey Brunner
