Why is it that we cant aim from hiding?

A couple problems I see with not being able to aim from hiding. . .

- When aiming at someone all they have to do is hide to disrupt your aim, ruining it.

- The penalties for not aiming when using a ranged weapon are so severe that one MUST aim in order to hit anything even close to your general skill level.

Im not saying everyone should be able to fire from hiding as well, naturally firing a gun would knock you outta hiding. Also, I dont know what Marduk has planned for the engagement system so things like this could be changing.

If aiming from hiding isnt possible for all professions then I would suggest something that prevents players from hiding in combat based on checks vs perception and maybe streetwise if in town and tracking if outside of town.

~Just a few more thoughts and suggestions.~

Aiming from hiding is currently a professional perk for certain professions. As for the rest...I'll let someone else answer.

Because you're not a member of the right profession.

This actually isn't true. Unless they're good enough at hiding, you will have a good chance to disrupt their attempt to hide.

Code:
You say, "When I aim at you, you hide."

Kiley Aloke begins picking a crude ocia crate.
aim torr
Torrent Amore'z says, "Ok."
You begin to aim a shot at Torrent Amore'z.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
>Torrent Amore'z begins to hide, but you immediately point at him, thwarting his attempt.
>'excellent
You say, "Excellent."

That's awesome man.

You could always aim, then hide. I know that can ruin the ambush effect you'd want on a PC, but that should work fine on NPCs

I did a couple tests. . .the first one you saw was with Torrent. After that I asked Dzynna to assist me. Her stealth is far superior to Torrent's, though I'm not sure how much.

Code:
You begin to aim a shot at Dzynna Zol.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
>
You notice Dzynna Zol go into hiding.
You relax and stop aiming.

I was able to see her hide yet not automatically point.

I said you have a chance. It's not 100% unless you have full aim.

Well why would you lose aim if you see where the person went.

Yea what he said.

See the problem is the fact that your shot is ruined pretty much immediately once they hide, there is no time to point before it says you stop aiming.

If you are on the cusp of seeing them hide (I can't verify you were, just speaking theoretically) one could argue you noticed them disappear or noticed them actually jump behind the bushes or whatever, but lost track of their current position.

But you can't fail at pointing someone out of hiding.

(ps: don't change that! Razz)

Another question. . .Does it become increasingly harder to hide the closer they are in range?
