Weapon appraissal has been modified such that you can now see the relative strengths and weaknesses of weapons at various ranges.

Note: A melee weapon being "practical" and a missile weapon being "practical" do not necessarily correlate in any way.

The ranges are as follows:

Unwieldy
Cumbersome
Clumsy
Poorly suited
Manageable
Practical
Advantageous
Excellently suited
Wielded effortlessly

But a question, what the heck is "pilum range"?

It's the optimal range for most throwing weapons and a few very long polearms.

When the apprasial says a gun-weapon is X at melee range, is it considering it as a blunt weapon or a fired weapon?

Rifles work better fired at melee than missle?

I can see that a gun would do more damage point-blank, but it would seem harder to pull that off on something running about trying to kick my ass.

It looks as though it would be practical at melee range.

It looks as though it cannot be used at pilum range.
It looks as though it cannot be used at missile range.

This weapon requires one hand to wield.
You are unable to determine if it is poisoned.
You have no idea how much an onyx shuriken with a silver skull on the face is worth, but you think it could be around $60.
Roundtime: 19 sec.

Should thrown weapons show up like that?

The range appraissals for multi-shot weapons have been adjusted to better reflect the effects of kickback at longer ranges.

Keep in mind that, unlike the appraissal for damage, these are just general indicators, not actual ranges; the modifiers involved are a lot more complicated than practical = +5 accuracy, etc.

And only the lowest catagories will produce remarkable penalties when using weapons at that range.
