How come spells like lightning bolt, green haze, and so on never stun?
I'm not saying they should constantly stun someone, but since melee and missle weapons can stun someone, why can't magical attacks? _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Short answer: They don't inflict damage in the same way other combat stuff does. IOW it's not intended, just how it's set up currently. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Then what about a mage spell that does stun critters? Freeze or stun. Or is that something already being worked on? _________________ All explorers are seeking something they have lost. this is something that i've been wondering myself. I look at all the mage spells (some cool, some imo useless) and think that somehow our offensive spells should be able to stun or paralyze or even knock someone onto their ass. Performers can stun something if they have enough rhythm to get Drums of Fear (which is open for all and I do have it, but i believe it will soon be performer only i think) and Psi's have paralyze but mages have nothing like that. I would love to see a spell that can aid a mage (mebbe replace shrink or something...what is that spell good for anyway?)

Out of curiosity, which spells do you feel are useless and why? _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

i guess its personal opinion but here ya go:
1. Shrink... i dont think shrink is good for anything except to make Dixie mad at me *grin* i guess its like the mood and hair and sex changes for performers, to me they are just there to irritate others.
2. Diffuse... I have yet to see somebody actually use this spell, i personally dont even have it
Again personal opinion but i dont really care for rejuvenate either. Now granted two of these anyone can use and I can see why Diffuse and Rejuv might be nice for a medic, but if you look at the Mage Only spells we have:
1. Proficiency - makes us able to cast quicker, which i like but hardly use cuz it takes a bit of mana and if im casting already don't wanna waste more mana than i need to.
2. Mastery - same as above
3. Shrink - already commented on this one
4. Grow - now i do like to use this because it does impact my strength factor which i like.
5. Seams and Paths - teleport
No spells that are offensive are Mage only spells whereas psi's have alot of psi only kickass stun or blind ya stuff and performers have all their spellsongs that can inflict on others as well. To put it bluntly i feel like Performers are more of Mages than Mages are and Mages are more like well alchemists... For this reason I have been really considering changing my profession when live comes around, though i do love my teleport so Im really up in the air about it. Anyway, theres a few of my reasons.

Just a note, 75% of all mage spells are mage only in the spell list for live. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Correction: 70%
100 mage spells, 30 open to all professions, 70 mage-only. Many damage spells are mage only. The weaker elemental attacks are open to all, but the mid-high are not. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Shrink decreases the target's strength right? That could be quite useful against creatures. But that would make it quite pointless against players that use ranged weapons and/or attack powers/spells though...which seems to be a majority of them.
Unlock...I like it since I train so many other things, security is something I have left in the dust. I tend to "underhunt" anyhow, since I haven't maxed any of my combat skills except for shield...which I can't triple anyway. Though after the experience change, my view of it will likely change to reflect yours as well. _________________ Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! |

Unlock works on 75% of the boxes you find, and 8.3% of the boxes you find are ocia which is easier to unlock.
I'll probably alter this ability some so it works on higher level boxes BUT has a fairly good failure rate so you need several attempts (using focus for each).
It's not intended to replace lockpicking.
As for Shrink, it needs updates to work on critters... but as for players, it increases their encumbrance which is going to affect all attacks except those magical/supernatural in nature, and it affects their defenses. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato
