IF the proposal for advancement is implemented, the skill level cap should be: |
300 - Skills are worth about the same, but I know I can cap much earlier than level 100. |
|
25% |
[ 10 ] |
500 - Skill points are worth less to me, but I know I can look forward to stuff to work on all the way up to level 100. |

Voting in this is not an endorsement for the proposal, only a vote as to what you think should happen IF the proposal is approved. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

I'm definitely for 500. Part of it is my profession; it's no fun that 99 lvl Vhen vs. 67 lvl someone else can be a close match.... but I just like being able to train stuff all the time.
500 all the way! |

I pretty much echo what Turnip said. Having to work all the way to level 100 is a big accomplishment, and I think will allow the professions to really shine on the way there. _________________ Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! |

I'm trying to understand all this. I keep rereading your explanation. I realize I've a doctorate in anatomy instead of math, and I took a 4 month hiatus from the game, so I am a bit behind the times. I've always thought penalizing for playing was excessive, Devaluing the skill at 500 might be to. Maybe 400. But keeping it at 300 where everyone maxes way before level 100, definately is not good, so I went with the lesser of two evils. _________________ ~* TruSt iN YouRseLf *~ |

Whatever the new cap, i hope that i wont be dropped back down to having to fight, say, borkins, simply because i would perform less effectively at 150/500 than i would at 90/200 now, or 150/300 were that to win. _________________ You say, "Wisdom, courage, temperance, justice."

Jade in your specific case, you'll have more skill training points available to you than you have right now. Unless you choose to put them in non-combat skills, this won't be a problem. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

just confused as to the math of the skill cap change, might be lack of sleep, but here it goes... will the new cap, either 400 or 500, be the same amount of effective skill as the old cap? I guess what Im tryin to say is will there be four or five hundred steps to reach the same height that 200 took you before? _________________ ... And all's well that ends OK,

Right now 200 skill is worth 200 skill.
If we go to 300, 200 skill will be "worth" a bit less.
If we go to 500 skill, 200 skill will be "worth" quite a bit less. But if we -don't- go to 500 skill cap, you'll be able to max your skills at 60th level which could leave you quite bored. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

right now i have 90/200 bladed, or 45% of the way to the current cap. it is triple-trainable for me, fully trained.
under the new system, as per complevel, i would have 180/500, or 36% of the way to the new cap, if i train bladed fully . . making me the performance-equivalent of someone with 72 in bladed now (.36*200=72). i would fare as well as a current level 24 for one for whom it is triple-trainable, a current level 36 for someone for whom it is double.
i still do not understand this. it seems i would still perform worse than i do now. _________________ You say, "Wisdom, courage, temperance, justice."

(I assume) critter skills would be adjusted also, so you'd be hunting exactly what you did before the change. _________________ ** The phrase "break a leg" just wasn't ambitious enough for Mellie Knight. [8:31 pm]

You have to take into account the fact that someone at 24th or 36th level is going to be facing the same thing. I don't know what level they would be under the new reqs, but let's say that they could go from 72 to 140 (made up).
72/200 is 36% of possible cap. 140/500 is 28% of possible cap.
Trevor's already acknowledged that with a jump to 500 as the skill cap, there WILL be a devaluing of skills for EVERYONE. It gives people like Mellie an opportunity to grow when they're stagnant right now. The people that would INCREASE in percentage of cap are going to be very young, 5th/6th level and lower. _________________ You are Normal And Boring Sorlan Freelance, a Human. |

Some creatures will need to be either moved, or have adjustments in their level. All creatures will need adjustments in skills. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

If the cap is going to be as high as 500, then I don't think there should be a limit imposed on how often someone can train a skill per level. Not everyone who plays is going to stick it out to level 100; and with such a high ceiling I don't think it'd be unreasonable to do away with the leashes that keep people in check right now. No matter what someone's level, if they put enough work into training a skill they should have more to show for it than an imposed set of numbers (i.e. 5 in a skill per level) that doesn't change throughout their lifespan.
That's if I'm recalling that aspect of the proposal correctly. |
