Is there any chance someone could clarify a bit on the advantages of using shield vs. evasion?

I realize I may not be the greatest test subject, since things, in general, tend not to hit me. However, I'm not seeing a great difference, between the two, other than the stat sets and the encumberance/armor issues (which I haven't testing thoroughly, but will assume are significant as per HELP COMBAT 2). While I'm sure these have the potention to be significant for certain characters - particularly the fact that certain melee weapons and shield use the same stat set - but I'm not sure I'm getting the full benefit of them.

The bonus when stunned/knocked down would be a decent enough reason to use it, when I to know I'm going to be in a position where I may be stunned, but I'm not quite impressed with it (last time I played with it a bit, I was able to be hit by a psionic with approx 28 unarmed, vs. aprrox 200 shield and ridiculous strength, coord, and perc). This isn't really meant as general bitching, just that the reason I'd use it doesn't seem worthwhile enough to move from parrying/dodging to shield.

None of this is urgent enough to require immediate attention, neither does it even need to be looked at in beta. Rather, I just really, really want to like shield, and trying to find a legitimate reason to.

Wow... Thanks. I wasn't even hoping for anything like that.

How much of this still applies? And if it's a drastic difference, could we get an update?
