Are tech's the only people that can fix damaged comms?
Can comms get so damaged that they become unfixable?
I think we should have an NPC comm fixer. . .like the cyberware guy. There arent always techs around to fix them and they seem to break down pretty fast. . .unless its still being tweaked. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

Yes.
No. They will stop working, but you can always get them fixed.
I have been experimenting with the integrity comms to see what would be too much or too little. I don't want an NPC repairer, but as an alternative, the comm shops will now sell an integrity upgrade that will make them last twice as long.

I've been waiting for my comm to break so I can fix it, but when I open it up and look at it, I never see any damage. Do you actually have to speak into it for it to break? It's always on, I just never use it. |

Yeah, it degrades with use. Just being turned on will not effect it.

So... if you don't see anything when you look in or at your open com, then it's nuh broke correct?
Also, to avoid starting another thread I was wondering how the repair skill might be useful for Artisan's in live? I'm sure there'll be plenty of non electronic things that need fixing, I just can't think of em. _________________ Behind every optic is a mathematic. |

Weapons, armor, maybe clothing or magical jewelry for starters. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Correct. It will degrade every time you use it, but when it gets anywhere near breaking you'll know it (the crackling and the damaged wires).

So is there a level/skill req for a tech to be able to fix them? _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

No, but it would take quite a long time for a low level technician to fix it. They will probably mess up and make it worse more than they will make progress.

So no level req for fixing but I'm wondering the skill level needed to install an upgrade. Assuming first off that I'm using the right command I'm unable to install a mail notification upgrade into my comm.
Also, is it possible to install more than one extended range upgrade to increase the range even more? _________________ teh Broughan |

I whipped up a level 1 tech and fixed a comm. It took about 7 tries with 15 sec rt on average. So its not that bad, it just doesnt teach well. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

They are pretty difficult. There is a random factor to it, though, so you may have to try a number of times before you get lucky. You won't be able to do this until you get close to approximately level 20, and some the highest level technicians can barely do the hardest range upgrade.

No. Another upgrade with a larger range maybe be available in the future, but not yet.

You may find it to be much more difficult for low level characters. This should prevent people from rolling up a level one technician for the sole purpose of repairing their communicator.
