What would eb the possibility of modifing comms so that chips could be installed? Similiar to what Sora was doing, A long-distance receiving chip, a long-distance transmition chip, a mail alert chip, an advanced channels chip, a solor chip. Then sell comms from a catalog like this:
Page 1- Type
Headset
Necklace
Pendant
Earring
Earbud
Earcuff
Pin
Ring
Band
Page 2- Slots
One
Two
Three
Four
Five
Page 3- Material
(list of materials here)
Page 4- Designs
shaped like a leaf.
traced with intricate vinework.
carved into flowing knots.
Etc etc.
Then have the chips available in a Technician only part of the shop, and only technicians could install the chips (or a visiting merchant). Sora could come time to time to add new technology or stock.

I like it, though since I didn't work on comms I don't know if it's a realistic idea mechanicswise.

Even though it's an old topic:
I agree with Tao, would be very nice if a tech could build comms, or like was stated above (forget who sorry) have a 'catalog' to build your own comm. They are very limited right now and in my view kind of dull and bland.
I want a comm that flashes lights and sends off sirens!
Well, not really, but you get the idea. |

No no, that's not what I meant. I want to be able to add channels, upgrade batteries, change metals, add accessories, change a wrist worn comm around to be belt worn.
That sort of customization and upgrades. ::huff::
I'm really not all that interested in comms though. It seems like small potatoes to what a tech should be able to do. |

They're not all made of a specfic metal.

These would be cool, though, altough I'd adjusting where they're worn and what's on them more artisan-like, though.

Are you referring to the batteries? There are different types to buy there, what Soundless was trying to say is that anyone can replace their own battery. And to upgrade the battery, all ya do is buy a stronger battery.

Making the metal shell may be something a tech does.
Making the motorcycle into a motorcycle out of parts is definitely something a tech does.
Making the leather handgrips is something an artisan would probably do. Same for a seat cover.
Painting the thing would also be something an artisan would most likely do. Why? Because it isn't about mechanical engineering, it's about making something like pretty.
I'm all for techs being able to build things. But if someone adds a strap or paints it purple, that is something I would see more geared toward an artisan.
