Are there any ideas on how flying a plane -- or some sufficiently easier machine, for personal use, for that matter -- will work in Live? It would seem as if it'd be like rowing the canoes, now, but more automated and a bit faster. But would we, on the ground, get any messages of something flying overhead? That would be interesting.
You guys probably haven't even thought of it yet, but that just let's us give you our own ideas before anything's set in stone. So it's all good.

PS: With mechanical flight comes an avian race. I mean, they do go hand-in-hand you know. _________________

I really don't know yet. Flying mechanics are one of those things a lot of games have wanted to do but have never quite managed to because it is such an incredible challenge and affects so many subsystems.
Aviation was planned primarily as a good way to get from point A to point B, especially when you're talking transcontinental travel and we'd envisioned luxurious player owned vehicles. It is most likely however that we will simply not touch on this at all initially, and the skills will not exist on your skill list or be trainable. That's something else we're doing differently -- only listing or putting into existence skills that actively have a use.
But anyway, aviation is a good viable option of travel over long distances for those who don't use magic, or for places inaccessible by magic.
Of course the next natural progression is space travel ... _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

So for skills like this (assuming they're something we really want to train in), we'll just have to save training points and hope they eventually become available? |

You can always beg for reallocations, though.

Er, yeah that's something else. We've all seen how reallocations have affected the game... in live, it is unlikely you will be able to change race or profession, but skill/stat reallocations are likely when major changes make it reasonable. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Well, it might not be that big of a deal in Live... everybody who's reading this will probably be pretty high up there when we move over to Live, so our skills are going to cost a lot to train, and we'll be getting more points per level and such. So, when they release a new skill, we'll be at a higher level, so instead of training 1 in ecology, we could train like, 20 in aviation, maybe. |

You technically won't even have a set number of points per level since a) you can gain skill points by using a skill and b) skill costs will vary based on current skill level & the skill in question. You still will level by the time you make X skill points, but X is not a clear cut number. Really, I'm quite excited about the new skill system, myself. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato
