I am looking for confirmation on a rumor I heard or to find out if these two still would work togther at all during live.
Is there any truth to being about to evade a blow if you miss parrying it?
Can you be set to parry something and still be able to evade magical attacks if you are trained in both?
Thanks. _________________ One must have knowledge beyond learning, and wisdom beyond understanding to say what can or cannot be. |

This is still up in the air. I have two thoughts on it really:
1 - It makes no real sense. You can't do both, and while you might be able to correct a mistake last minute, you couldn't reasonably do it all the time.
2 - It would be nice for gameplay.
I am leaning toward implementing it because I tend to lean more toward gameplay than realism. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Actually, you can do both. In fact, failure to do both would eventually get you killed.
Especially when parrying empty-handed, the most important thing is still to remove yourself from the path of the weapon, so that if, for whatever reason, your parry fails, you still avoid being hit.
Conversely, if you evading an attack, your free hand (or hands) protect your vital points so that if your dodge fails, get cut across your knuckles instead of having your throat slit, or get stabbed in the arm instead of the lung.
Obviously this would also be true of shield.
The point is, any fighter knows that his parries aren't going to be 100% successful, and neither will his dodges. But if he combines the two, even if it means only a half step to the side when he parries, he has a much better chance of not winding up dead. _________________ -Downtweak

Pardon: What I mean is the actual application of both options at the same time. There are to ways to think of this.
1: I tried to parry and failed, so now I'll try to dodge. Not generally realistic, you can't usually do BOTH.
2: I don't think I can parry this, so I'll try dodging instead. Realistic, but you should also theoretically be able to miscalculate and dodge when a parry would have been better, right? _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

I agree with Downtweak on this.
Both are possible and honestly neccesary when fighting.
just like your mind can do more than one thing at once so can that amazing machine, your body.
Of course it takes insane amounts of either training or just plain street knowledge to be able to fight to any affective degree.

It seems like the actions that downtweak's describing would only depend on one skill. As you got better at parry, you'd learn to move your body away from the blow; as you got better at evasion, you'd learn to block/cover your vital areas. |

How about the ability to do both simutaneously
with a slight bonus to the one selected.
example.
Code: |
You move in a position to parry.
you are now using
80 % of your evasion skill and
120 % of your parry skill
|
If ya could use 100% of both skills
then what would be the point of the
command ? _________________ Traythyn Darkwater

Yes I dont believe you should be able to use 100% of each skill, I think it should be less than what even you stated. If you have trained both parry and evasion and have Parry as your "selected" then 100% of your parry skill should be taken into affect and say a 50/50 chance to evade if you fail.
Just my opinion though.
I myself just train evasion and love it, so far that is

Um, I don't know about this in the test, or in Live, but if you train evasion and parry, will your character choose the right defense (most of the time)? Like, if you're fighting something that uses projectiles, you'll try to dodge?
And what can you parry with? Guns? Fists? And if so, will your guns or arms/fists be damaged if you parry with them? |

It does this already, if you're in parry mode and someone shoots, or if you're in block mode but don't have your shield out, then you'll try to dodge.

When weapon damage goes live then yes. Whether this will be here or in the live version I don't know yet. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

To clarify on that last question: Right now you can parry with a weapon or bare-handed. Neither you nor the weapon take damage, but this will change in live. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

How will we get weapons and armor fixed if there will be damage
to them in live? _________________ All explorers are seeking something they have lost. It is seldom they find it, and more seldom still that the attainment brings them greater happiness than the quest. |

Artisans as much as will be possible at launch, but NPC based services will be available as well. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Techs too, for things like pulse guns and phase blades. _________________ ~Hunter~ |
