Any chance we could get something similar to this? Something that could help take the damage from a parry (when that actually comes into affect) instead of one's own flesh.. something that could add a little bit of damage to punches/uppercuts/hooks/jabs.. something that'd just look neat overall. And, when I was searching around for better pictures, I came upon a fan-site for another game that has a whole set of stances dedicated to this one weapon (well, they aren't really stances so much as techniques you could train up with the weapon).. and they sound fairly neat. For all those curious: http://eternal-city.fateback.com/combat/cestus.html
I originally wanted it to be Guardian-only, but I guess that'd be kind of cruel to all those other people going all Unarmed + Parry. I'm tempted to say "Screw you", but.. ahh, maybe not.

We've concidered doing weapons like that, and still are concidering. Besides the cestus there's more common things like brass knuckles or a roll of quarters in your fist (too bad Hael has mostly progressed past coins, heh) along with spiked boots and the like.
We most likely won't be doing it until the live version though. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

Bring more of a retro street fighter feel to unarmed. I like it. Course I think we should be able to choose between more advanced skills like people are able to choose what guns they use say we choose to use a certain style of fighting....street, martial arts, bar room style <G>
Course there would still be the generic moves that you get just by training up unarmed, but its something to think about.

Actually there are already unarmed styles, Guardians get quite a few from their leaders, Mercs and Troopers get their own individual hand to hand training, and Trackers learn one of three animal styles. There's also racial styles that aren't released to the public yet, though they will be. Right now they don't have special messaging or unique moves, though in the live version hopefully they will. What they basically do is shuffle various bonuses and penalties into different setups. For example, one stance might have shorter RTs, but be less likely to cause stuns.
Though not alot is likely to change here, we're open to suggestions for the new engine. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

Personally, I wouldn't mind things like brass knuckles, steel bracers, cestus, katars, etc. to aid in unarmed combat. However, I can't see Guardians using them. I see the Guardian code as prohibiting the use of anything other than your body to aid in physical attacks. "Not putting anything between you and your enemy" or some such pithy maxim.
As to damage from parrying, I certainly hope guardians would be smart enough not to try to block the actual weapon being swung at them, rather catch the attacker at mid-swing (by the wrist, elbow, shoulder, etc.).
That's not to say we should avoid such fun weapons as sacks of doorknobs, brass knuckles, and socks full of quarters, but they wouldn't be Guardian weapons, or necessarily unarmed weapons at all.

Basically, though there's racial styles as well, which you'll be able to learn even if not of the race, but they're tailored to that races strengths and weknesses. In the new engine I'd like it to work a bit differently, though since I'm not sure yet if it will work out, I won't go into it right now. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

Yes, though racial stances will be open to all professions. _________________ ~Hunter~ |
