Just wondering what you guys thought. I know that probably all of the professions could take up the job if needed, but for the sake of keeping the poll concise I only listed those that I thought best suited the calling of a Cleric or Priest. Smack me later.

My reasoning behind it is. Guardians sound like a Paladin, clerical type person. Trying to solve things through means other than violence. _________________ Protect those, who cannot protect themselves. |

I would've thought someone would vote for Performer or Mages by now. Performers are professional actors and would be trained to keep a straight face when they marry the most unlikely couple. Mages tend to be portrayed as the archetypical(sp?) councilman.. full of wisdom and authority and stuff. Same goes for Psionics.
I voted for the Guardians for a similar reason as BlueEyes; they do seem to be the Paladin substitute for Haelrahv, and we all know how Paladins wish they could be Clerics but are too violent and hedonistic(..haha..) to fulfil such a dream.
Whoever voted for Other, though, I wish you'd come out and say who you think is most suited to be the Cleric Wannabe profession. I'm very interested in hearing why.
And to whoever voted for Medics.. you sux0rs.

We don't have an official stance on this topic, but it has come up before in general conversation, and usually Guardians are perceived as the most likely choice for said role. Really, since we have not created a true profession based around religion, it's up to you guys. However, the way Guardians handle themselves, their purpose and even the roots of their foundation are all factors that give them a very cleric/paladin/monk-like presence. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

If you really must know, I was the one who voted other for the simple reason that I couldn't really decide between Medics, Psionics and Technicians (not listed). Medics could do post-mortem resuscitations. Psionics could do the sort of job that Clerics do in Dragonrealms what with restoring of memories by working with the deceased's mind. Technichians could possibly just go and clone the dead person. Perhaps the "Cleric" profession could be a combination of two or all three. For example, a Mercenary dies and a Medic is able to revive them shortly after death. However this traumatic experience has given them memory loss or some such thing which is repairable by a capable Psionic. The current leader of poll, Guardians, seem to be more of the martial artish monk than any sort of Cleric. I'm quite confused as to why performers are on the poll however.

I went with Guardians. They seem the holy sort, to me.
I can't really picture any of the others preaching the Gods etc.
As for Performers being on there...most religious leaders are.

When I said "Cleric", I didn't mean to restrict the role solely to resurrection and memory restoration and the sort. I meant as far as preaching to the masses ("My Brothers and Sisters, I have been to the mountaintop! I have seen the Promised Land; and her name is Dairy Queen."), performing religious ceremonies (funerals, marriages, etc), or simply to council those with troubled minds ("Forgive me father, for I have sinned.. blah blah blah").
But I suppose restoring life from oblivion is a rather hefty portion of it, too.
And, as to Performers being on the poll: have you ever seen a snippet of one of those Christian channels? Those evangelists.. my god (pun? maybe).

*clucks tongue* Well as far as a marriage goes it should be all bureaucrat. There's the pre-nups, the marriage lisence, the talking to the judge, getting the judge to sign the license.. Then you could hav a wedding after the marriage is done.
Oh and i did forget the divorce license and so forth.. _________________ One must have knowledge beyond learning, and wisdom beyond understanding to say what can or cannot be. |
