I just read this on CNN. I have to wonder how long people will allow absolute gross abuses of the law to go on like this. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Ha ha. William beat me out, but yes. It's worth noting.
Re: unmarried couples with children and residency . . . To me, it's another sign that we still have the tendency to focus too much on law and too little on the essence of this setup. Surely, the couple in question love their kids, and most likely each other as well. If these are true, their marriage status seems like such a trivial detail that it ought to be overlooked.

I'm not sure what loving anyone has to do with it. Why can't four people who aren't related at all live with each other? It's just absurd overall. |

That's another way it could be looked at, sure. I just put that up as one example of a way in which it would better suit those in power to evict, etc. to try and gauge the nature of the relationship. The part about being related by blood is what I find worst of all. It would mean at least the father or mother having to leave. And I'm sure any state that feels so strongly about marriage would feel worse about single-parent homes. _________________ You say, "Wisdom, courage, temperance, justice."

since it's a zoning law, i'm assuming the law exists so a large group of people can't all claim residency within the same home. if that's the case, the purpose is to prevent an infinite number of people to all claim residency in the same home/apartment/whatever, which could create a nice number of health and safety hazards. but, obviously, they also wouldn't want to keep a family/relatives/couple from living together so that's why they're the exception to the zoning law.
that said, the law does clearly have flaws and this is one of those situations.
by bet is that the zoning law was made decades ago when there was massive overcrowding in certain residences due to poverty (although i don't know what kind of situation black jack ever had). _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!
