Can techs learn how to use any medical technology? It seems to me that they should be able to...since they can understand the workings of the machinery at least as well as a medic and can train first aid and the like.

I would say: Would be nice... But I don't think so. That's a medic thing. I wouldn't want to encroach (is that a word?) on their territory. It would be cool to be able to read bioscanners...but for their equiptment? Nah.

That's just my thing.

Not only is it a "medic thing", but knowing how to use equipment doesn't mean you know how to use it in a medical capacity. I mean, we can all read books nowadays with this whole new-fangled literacy thing, but most of us couldn't make heads or tails of a book littered in technical jargon.

Aside from that, we don't plan abilities under the premise of "realism" anyway. If we did, you'd have very, very few profession-unique abilities.

medical equipment is based off first aid, and electronics though, right? maybe research aswell.

it would be cool to be able to use bio scanners and nurolizers with enough first aid training.. but I think a regenerator, or anything else would be too hard for anyone not devoting thier life to it.

Actually, use of medical equipment is based off of varied things currently, and depending on which item it is, could include medicine, first aid, research, electronics or (unreleased) surgery.

In live, there will be a Medic ONLY skill which will be required. As far as I know, other professions will never be able to use medical equipment beyond the basics (bandages, etc.).
