I know that learning from sculpting is a bit on the poor side so I thought I'd open up a discussion regarding increasing such. I was thinking more along the lines of how much roundtime and messaging when we sculpt.

Here is what I have come up with so far:

Inserting a line between You wet your hands and slide them over the clay. Applying force, a <project type> begins to take shape.

I'd like to see something to the effect of this: You rewet your hands and slide them over the <project type>, bringing out the finer details. You feel that you have made an <inferior, average, superb project type>.

Cutting down the roundtime of the first message since that can be over 100 seconds, and perhaps cutting it in half. Then the second message I suggested can be the other half of the first message's roundtime.

The inferior, average, and superb reflect what you can do at your skill level. So if you get the inferior you know it ahead of time and not as the end result. Ergo you can press the clay and start over again if you don't like the results.

I'm also assuming that each message is when you learn the sculpting skill in nskills. If this is not the case, well back to the drawing board.

Anyone else have any suggestions on what they would like to see message wise?

Though I haven't played an artisan in awhile...I've wondered WHY there is so much round time. Sculpting would be more profitable/fun if the roundtime was cut down to put it more on par with tailoring.

Suggestions:
1. Put sculpting roundtimes on par with tailoring...meaning, give people more things to do then just watch the 100+ rt. More verbs...or just type the command however many times it takes....botching and fixing or whatever.
2. Give different projects different roundtimes.

To reiterate the line of thinking behind the design of pottery -- we never intended for players to make tens of thousands in cash every hour (or millions in a few days time), in spite of the fact that it's pretty much the benchmark payout on new (and refurbished) systems these days. Pottery still strictly adheres to the original economic model (time involved, payout, time applied, etc) decided on by the (those who are now) senior GMs, which means that pottery is inarguably the most economically unbroken system in the entire game.

And I was talking about making pottery less...boring. Giving people more things to do with pottery. Not new projects, just more things to do with it...more actions.

Hmm...yanno...if there were more actions, more room for botching steps, repairing them, or so on, then maybe a character could glean more skill/exp from them.

I thought you said IG that this is just because you are the only GM that knows the code for sculpting, and havent changed anything sense the begining?

:yawns:

I would love to not just see a 100 second RT.. even making it take as long, could you add in more text messaging? like split it up into three 35 RT messages.. maybe even one of those stating a chance for a critical failure resulting in the sculpter having to restart.
