i was told these devices only work with onyx for now, but can that be expanded? i can see it being very useful for jewelers who wan to make bigger sized gem rings.

Kit said the same thing, but isn't there a limit on how big of a unit you can have to make jewelry? I thought once ya had 10 units it made you cut the gem down.

yeah but it also gives me something to do with all 1-9 part pieces i come across when/if i mine. Wink

there are also some non-findable gems in the mining system now, IIRC, so this would help get us some larger ones of those, as well.

i'd also rather just like to have something to compress all the units i find hunting into more managable one piece sets so i don't have to enter "grab X/sell X" over and over.

except i don't want to crush things and combine them in preparation for alchemy. it's a lot of steps to do just so you see "a diamond" instead of "a diamond, a diamond, a diamond, a diamond...".

that, and i can't do that if i want the larger sized thing for jewelry.

The most obvious action to take if you want to avoid the paste-repeat hassle would be to have them brokered. Otherwise, crushing and combining isn't inclusive solely to alchemy; for one it consolidates them (which I assumed was the result you were going for), and prepared commodities are worth more than raw items.

This will come across antagonistically, but seriously, people, our goal as GMs most decidedly isn't to release new systems and new items and new concepts as a means to eliminate the labor process and garner you fame and wealth and appropriately-sized items at an increased rate of speed. Just to clarify (unless I misunderstood something in this post), the devices will fuse any of the component gems. There was an error with ruby but I fixed that one this morning.

I put 3 seperate, 35 unit powders into the device and got two fused onyxes. Just be prepared for that. You lose units when you fuse.

btw just wanna say this is a cool thingy Smile Im glad to see mages get something thats more than just "zipping to echak".

As for arcane thingamawhatsit... how much will we need per bonused item? or how much am i gonna have to train it in order to keep my *chortles* 18 magical items that i wear?

I'm wearing 42 items, over a dozen of which are ultra-rares. I'm anxious to find out whether I should continue to rabidly hold on to everything or have a vault sale of my own.

I'm still working out the details, mainly due to technical concerns like whether my preferred method of handling this stuff would be too laggy.

But, you will receive a benefit up all the way up to 500 arcane, so you should assume you will be training to max unless you use very few bonused items.

Will the only way to get better at arcane be through focusing on crystals? Or will simply using bonused stuff or the skills that are affected by bonused stuff help too?

The technical point I'm trying to hash out is whether to limit how many points of skill bonuses you can have, for instance, versus how many skill bonusing items you can have. I think limiting by skill points makes far more sense in terms of game balance.

If, however, we were talking skill items and not skill points, I'd say 5 or less is "few", and 40 skill bonus items would be out of the question.

Stat and skill bonus items will have separate limits. Bonuses like teleport to echak, etc, will not be limited at all, but could have a minimum arcane skill to use.

I'll provide more info as soon as I can.

There will be other active methods, but expect them to be more of a nuisance, or more costly, than just training any old skill. There will definitely be no passive means like just wearing the gear.
