No, this whole thread is why if the NPC faster, easier, cheapier than a player?
And the cheaper refers to the price of parts, not labor. |
i'm really really confused. from what i've seen, using shavcire does cost more than the repair kits themselves. while shavcire is faster, it also seems that a player character with insanely high repair would also be just as fast. unless there's some notable scuffs on my cybergear, repairing most parts takes me 1-3 seconds (and that's without whatever innate bonii techs have at repairing cybergear).
let's say shavcire has like 500 repair... i'm sure that any tech with a high amount of repair would fix things really fast. you're comparing a worst-case situation for cybergear repair speeds. of course you're not able to quickly repair totally mauled cyberparts. while you may have 200 repair (with whatever techs get as a bonus, if you trained it up to 200), which is the (non level 100) cap by PC standards, that doesn't mean the leader of the techs would also be sitting at 200 repair as well.
honestly, unless my gear is dead or my eyes are the gear that are in really bad shape, i don't need a tech to do it for me. and if they are in such bad shape at that point, there are few techs at that skill level interested in doing repairs (you being an example).
that said, cost, to me, is never an issue, either. i just want them fixed. unless repairing eyes and such is changed so it costs $10k+ or something, i don't see any price change doing anything. even the 10k+ price tag won't do much because i just wouldn't let me gear get so bad in the first place. i generally pay PC medics more than the NPC healer costs, but then again there are times when i don't want to sit around waiting for a medic to want to heal. is that a little isolationist of me? sure i suppose, but sometimes i just want yaru's nerve damage fixed and be done with it than sit around asking if any medics are awake at 8am. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Okay I have to put my 2 cents in on this.I dont charge folks for fixing things. I always say a tip if you want too. Some people are gracious enough to but some people dont tip.I agree fully with Kit that would be like having a tailor in the game who could make the same backpack as you charge alot less than what you did.
I offer to fix peoples cybergear. You know what they tell me Ill go to Shav hes cheaper and faster thank you anyway though. That is Kits whole point in this not making money. It we are not needed and nowehere else in game is some other professions skill offered like that, such as a boxpicker who would open your boxes.I have said through a few posts now that Techs need to be offered something new.
Right now we can do 4 things Flashlights/Comms/Droidlights and fixing cybergear.People only need 1 flashlight/Comm people skip over techs usually to go to Shav and get their stuff fixed.Leaves really nothing left for the tech to explore. And lets face it I have a Tracker.Id be mad as hell if an NPC came in and tracked people to Jareya for little or no cost simply because that is my speciality, just like fixing cybergear is a techs speciality.
I support Kits thinking fully as Im sure all other techs will

casing kit, 200
wiring kit, 500
sealant, 500
acuator kit, 500
It adds up.

Then something's wrong with kit. He still has 'steps back for a moment' with casing kits on most occasions. Wiring/bottles can take up to 10 tries for me to finally repair it...30 second each.
So you say...repair often. And that's fine. One hit from a scourge kills my eyes. Two hits...boom, gone. Eyes such anyhow because they take double damage, even if different eyes are hit each time. It's like losing one body part. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

On this same thread an idea was raised to me how about Shav only fixing gear so far then having to find a tech to repair it the rest of the way seems like a win/win to me

but people don't need a boxpicker to function. medics need functioning medical tech stuff to function. that's why the service is provided. if medic X is playing at a time there are no techs and his or her gear breaks, she's screwed and can't do medic things. meanwhile, if i hunt chith and i can't open a box, i can still hunt more chith. that's also why there are NPC medics.

that's a result of a daily playerbase of 30-50 people. the same thing happened with backpacks. Sure, I was able to make a decent amount of money selling big ones, but after the initial two dozen or so I sold, noone needed them anymore. does that mean the system failed? no way. it just means the playerbase is too small to support a constantly moving market.
now, if flashlights and comms broke (which i thought they did) and a tech has to repair it, that's how you keep techs involved in the system after the creation/sale step. notice how comm chips aren't repaired at the auto-tech. they're not needed to function. non broken cybergear and medical equipment is needed to function.

except that won't happen because noone needs transportation to Jareya to function.
trust me, i'm all for creation classes getting more stuff to do so they're part of the community, but shutting down NPCs isn't a valid option until the playerbase is big enough so that all the actions those NPCs perform can be done by players themselves on a more daily basis. right now that isn't the case.

except when you get to the point where damage that warrants that stuff is done, it generally costs $1,000+ to fix it at the NPC. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

And you just proved my point. The NPC is cheaper then the parts it costs a pc tech to fix stuff. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Let's keep in mind that Shavcire has been in since day one, just like the NPC Medic. Their services were made available because, back then, noone was able to do shit related to their professions. I'm sure whoever's in charge of Shavcire is in the same boat as Faith is with the hospital; it's a backburner issue until other things can get done.
Let's also remember that this is only Beta and that there are far more things planned for Techs once we transition to Live. What you guys can do now is not the be-all-end-all list.

I definately agree. I wasn't attempting to start a conflict -- but with some people, it seems anything I post is kindling for it -- just simply stating that the NPC tech is a tad too useful. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage
