Ok, I am really against reallocating because you trained a skill that proved useless or unsuitable for your character, so perhaps we could forget skills?
Just like, have a therapist set up somewhere that hypnotizes you and makes you forget that you ever trained a certain skill, mysteriously restoring those skill points.
You couldn't do this for any of the 4 core skills, as those points are immediately added on.
What do you think? _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |

That could get lame pretty quickly unless you restricted how often it could be done. Everytime an addition to a system comes out (case in point, treasure to fishing), everyone rushes out to train all of the skills/stats required. Then, a few days later, nobody really wants to do it anymore. So they burn a reallocation and forget it ever happened. With this idea, everyone will quickly pick up every new system that comes out until they're bored with it. At which point they'll rush to the therapist (or what have you) to gain all of the skill points back. With the reallocation, there was at least some work put into training a secondary character to 12th. With the therapist, it's just a free-for-all.
I like the idea's premise, but it would really need to be highly restricted. And probably really expensive.

I think I'm missing something; are you just asking for a different way to retrain skills all over again? _________________ Mickey Brunner

No.
Like, perhaps if you train a crafting skill and find you never use it.
Maybe it can only work on skills you don't use. Or haven't used in X amount of time. _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |

Or maybe you could only get back a certain percentage of the skill points you put into it.
Like 10% or something(10% might be too little, I dunno).
EXAMPLE: You spend 100 skill points on 100 ranks of Crafting. You decide you don't like it so you forget the skill or whatever and get back 10 points. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

I like the percentage idea.
But how about this?
10, 15 minute sessions that each cost $25k (because we know how healthcare goes for the more bucks, less treatment route). During treatment, you have to sit there and look at some scroll. Or even be forced to give imput so you can't just go do something else for 15 minutes. You can only do a session every 10 or so hours. Afterwards, you get 50% of the skill points back that you put into the skill.
This is
1. expensive. 500k.
2. time consuming. around a week
3. you don't get all your points back. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Hmm, perhaps the price should be based on what you're trying to forget, and how much it is you're forgetting.
500k isn't easily thrown around.
The time needed for this should be substantial yes, but we want drawbacks, not reasons for people to never do it. Just things that might turn the casual "Ooops"er away. Maybe in total the process takes 15 minutes, but not multiple sessions of 15 minutes.
Perhaps you could gain all your skill points back, at the cost of XP. That would be a big enough drawback that people who want it done will have to consider heavily. _________________ Why use logic when you can just...make stuff up? |
