Are these going to be doable at all before the new skill system? Currently I have no problem studying them, but I have yet to win even one round with a judge.

The skill reqs for them are too high as of now, so most likely not until the new EXP changes. You might even have trouble with some high level felony cases too, though I'm not sure.

Sorry, but I am in the target range of skill for them.

Actually when he released the new case system all the case levels and difficulties were based on the new exp system. Little by little he has been altering them for current skill levels. Capital cases are for level 75+ I think but with the new skill caps that would require 375 ranks in skills to start with, which you won't even come close to, ever, for now. I don't know if he plans on changing them for these levels or keeping them as is for now. Hopefully he will respond if he reads this thread.

I read everything, providing I have the time! I always start in the Bureaucrat folder too! In any case what Naru said is correct, when I developed this system, the skill requirements for cases were based off the proposed new skill system. I have slowly dropped misdemeanor and felony cases until they were appropriate for the ranges I was aiming for. I made very few, if any changes to capital cases due to the fact that no Bureaucrat was of high enough level to worry about changing them. I will be making changes this evening and by tomorrow if you purchase a capital case, you SHOULD be able to do roughly 80-90% of murder cases (Aesal) which are the hardest cases currently.

I made a slight change to case difficulty overall last night. I doubt it will be the only change I have to make to get the system where it needs to be, but let me know if you notice any difference.

Well I just tried 4 capital cases but didn't win any. I'll try more soon when I get a chance.

I Just made another change to case difficulty, I'm fairly confident this should make a noticeable difference in win/loss ratios.

I did 4 more cases and the results were mostly positive. I think it will be better when I can figure out when to argue, intimidate, or persuade. Intimidation is my highest skill by quite a few points, but so far only persuading has worked for me.

I'm not terribly impressed with the payouts. I thought they were supposed to have gone up, but I'd be earning more per case and doing cases faster under the old system.

Voluntary manslaughter
Code:
Judge Mohunshadun Gohundoju says, "Aesal Anari-Idia, you have proven enough of your case to successfully defend your client." as he slams down his gavel.
Judge Mohunshadun Gohundoju says, "Due to your defense, your client will serve the minimum jail time allowed by law, a parole term of 38 days and pay $150,000 for court fees and damages. This is a decent reduction from the possible $300,000 and jail time it may have cost."
Reluctantly, your client hands you a bonus of $510.

Treason
Code:
Judge Shop Rubon says, "Aesal Anari-Idia, you have proven most of your case and successfully defended your client." as she slams down her gavel.
Judge Shop Rubon says, "Due to your defense, your client will receive a suspended sentance and pay $100,000 for court fees and related costs. This is a substantial reduction from the possible $500,000 and jail time it may have cost."
Giving you a pat on the back, your client hands you a bonus of $1,000.

Rape
Code:
Judge Veihi Seiei says, "Aesal Anari-Idia, you have proven your case beyond a reasonable doubt and successfully defended your client." as he slams down his gavel.
Judge Veihi Seiei says, "I will have to assess a minimum fine of $50,000 for court fees and related costs. This is a substantial reduction from the possible $200,000 and jail time it may have cost."
Giving you a pat on the back, your client hands you a bonus of $695.

Murder
Code:
Judge Sha Shiili says, "Aesal Anari-Idia, you have proven your case beyond a reasonable doubt and successfully defended your client." as she slams down her gavel.
Judge Sha Shiili says, "I will have to assess a minimum fine of $370,000 for court fees and related costs. This is a substantial reduction from the possible $1,500,000 and jail time it may have cost."
Giving you a pat on the back, your client hands you a bonus of $715.

I agree on the payout for capital cases. Naru did some capital cases today and the payout for them is more or less the same as felony cases on average. Occasionally you get a $1000 payout.

Also, it's kinda unfair to have the judges argue-type preferance affect the payouts. At higher levels, we almost always get 'perfect' rolls and never even get a clue as to which type the judge prefers.

So they need to be made more difficult on the low end, too.

Naru is level 66 so his skills are almost capped. His stats are capped in relation to anything that involves brokering or doing cases. I just now started training his combat stats. So in relation to 'lawyering' he's about as good as he will ever be aside from breaking the level 100 barrier.

lesson learned: defense lawyers are paid poorly.

sue everyone, that's where the money is at!

no, really, i'm surprised the payoffs are so low. how long does the whole research/convince process go?

I study like 20 cases at a time cause there's a cool down period between each study on the same case.

Each study - 20 seconds
Final study - 40 seconds
Cool down period - 2-5 minutes I think, it's posted around here somewhere

Each study nets roughly anywhere from 5-30%, need 100% to do the case.

Each argue - 15 seconds

I think you always argue the same amount of times, 5 I think, I can't remember.
