The anticipated return of Professor Gabrielle Forsythe has arrived! She will soon be visiting to speak on various anthropological issues and she is curious as to what topics you'd be interested in hearing about and what kinds of things you would like to learn about. Please post your suggestions or questions here. Thanks! Very Happy

Ooh how fun. Does she have specific areas of expertise?

I'd be very interested in learning about other cities of Haelrahv and more about the races. Specifically, racial things reguarding Eolai markings, the way Darju are suppose to look, current racial relations, and why is lumis silk so big to the Eolai. I'm also curious about the Haelrahv calender...dates and things. Since there are diaries now, I want to date mine accurately.

I'd like to get an overview of the Haelrahvian calender, too.

Also, Morrigan, for in-character dialogues, would it be possible to get names of fairly well-known schools? I'm mainly curious about the medical and lawyer varieties, but big name prep schools (Llanfair Academy for Boys, anyone?) would be helpful as well. Maybe even regular public regional schools. People will always have the option of saying they didn't go to school or that they were tutored privately (Plato to the rescue), but it'd be a boon to those of us that would like to have structured schooling as part of our characters' lives. Things like mascots and school colours wouldn't be necessary, but they would be bonuses I suppose. Location, too, perhaps.

PS: Feel free to think up schools for agriculture and technology as well. Smile Design, too, I suppose.

PPS: Ugh, I need to stop. But yeah. For medical and law schools, should we expect people to graduate at similar ages as in real life? Sooner/later? In general, I mean.. there are always prodigies and super-geniuses (well, it is fantasy anyway). This brings up a question, though: do Bureaucrats and Medics go through any pre-professional schooling at all, or are they just thrust into the field and that's treated as their schooling? Or am I thinking way-too-real-life about this?

Mostly she deals with cultural issues: how people interact with other races and their own people, comparing and contrasting societal practices, etc. Although, she does dip a little bit into the physical anthro side since she's interested in how the races compare biologically and how their biological natures have effected their cultural norms.

On the rest, she could generally speak on schooling practices, although specific school names are sorta out of her realm of discussion. Same goes for the calendar, she probably wouldn't be too interested in the actual workings as to why something is named what it is, etc. I'll get something else together for you guys on the things she doesn't discuss.

I believe I would prefer to hear basic lectures on the current day 'standard' interactions between the races [by those thousands of people that do inhabit Haelrahv other than ourselves] and go from there. That in and of itself would be very interesting to learn about, after having read all the books.

Could you also compile general information about the profession leader dudes? Basic mannerisms, likes/dislikes, et al. I don't mean to keep asking questions for things that Gabrielle doesn't specialize in, but she's the closest we're getting to a history lesson. Heh.

Also, is the meeting going to (try to be) be In-Character? I'd prefer it not to be, since it allows for more "free" questioning, but it's fine if you do.

Yes, I would like the lecture with Gabrielle to be IC. Hmmm, perhaps I'll just hold two meetings, one that's OOC with me as the host to discuss those things that won't be covered by the Prof and one that's IC.

I like that idea. I really love to roleplay, but there's just some things you can't manage ICly and some questions that can't be asked to a PC.

Silly question but...

Is the history lesson that's IC going to be biased, or is it safe to assume that this is a very non-partisan scholar.

Prof. Forsythe is as unbiased as any anthropologist can be, take that as you want to Laughing

There's no such thing as an unbiased anthropologist. You learn that first thing when taking anything in the major. <3 And how true that is.

Besides, this is going to be more anthroplogical then historical right? I do know history has it's place in anthropology -- in fact, modern cultural anthro could not exist without a historical perspective -- but I'm much more interested in current issues then past ones.

And there's no such thing as unbiased history either.

Yes but OOC history is unbiased.

If Trevor says that Alteri are the 'smart' race, then Alteri are the 'smart' race.

If an IC GMNPC says it, then it's up for debate.

Oh I know it all too well, and you also learn in archaeology that almost everything discovered is a "ritual" item Laughing

Yeah, the Profs lecture will be mostly regarding current anthropolgical issues. My talk will have more to do with the history side.
