Am I alone when I laugh each time I find myself crushing diamonds and emeralds into powder? Probably not. While It makes me feel like superman, it's always very tedious. Can we possibly get some sort of technological way to crush gems into powder form? Yet another reason to spend my life in a lab....blasting ions into gems to destablize their structure and puff em into powder.

We could have a mechanical egg beater of sorts...something that has a base you can put a bowl (or mortar) in, and a socket for a pestle...put things in and crusheroonie!

I have laughed every time I crushed a diamond by hand. I mean, I can't crush a diamond with a sledge hammer, but I can with a mortar and pestle. Wow!!

Ever tried Razz ? While very hard, diamonds also brittle and breakable without needing an extravagant amount of force. Scientifically speaking hardness isn't equal to resistance to breaking, hardness is it's ability to resist deforming before breakage. Glass is harder then steel, it's actually not unrealistic at all. It's just that most people don't go around buying expensive diamonds and crushing them into nearly worthless dust, so people don't have first hand knowledge.

P.S. I don't have anything against a power-mortar type thing, just pointing out sciencey goodness.

Ok, I feel better now then, at least I didn't steal it from the person who went through the effort to make it, heh.
