Okay, so my computer has this really weird bug, where whenever I do anything that maxes out my CPU for more than a few minutes, it shuts itself off, or blue screens in protest. I've reinstalled windows multiple times now, and it just reoccurs.

Now, since scripting with the Wizard inevitably causes this to happen, I'm well on my way to carpal tunnel. I'd like to know if 1) anyone's ever seen a computer issue like this before, and 2) if anyone has any client recommendations that have an easy-to-learn scripting language, maybe even similar to the one used with the Wizard.

--Thanks

Could be a hardware problem. One thing you may want to try, is taking the cover off your PC and see how it does. Maybe you're overheating.

You can try to cure the Wizard problems by throttling down the priority on the app but I don't know off hand how you'd do this in WinXP, Me, 98, etc... it's easy in Win2K.

I don't know whose bug this is, but it's really getting annoying, so I thought I'd post it here..

After a certain time, any commands I type don't go through. But I can still see everything that's going on, lag-free. The only way I can fix it is to log out, but of course, "exit" doesn't go through..I have to just close down the Wizard and wait. And I can't re-log in until it decides to boot me.

I would say it's an overheating problem. Either take the side off like Trevor said or go buy some canned air and clean it out. To set the priority in XP, to go the task manager (ctrl alt del -> processes) and right click on Wizard.exe. And, unfortunately, I don't know of any other clients that have scripting capabilities like Wizard.

As for the other problem, I've actually had the same thing happen to me. I figured it was something on my end, though... and it very rarely happens, so it very well could be my problem.

I have run into the same thing many times, lately.

I am aware of this bug with commands not going through, but have not located the cause. I'm continuing to look.

When you blue screen, get the 0X error code and post it, and the file as well if possible.

I ran into the same problem when trying to play Splinter Cell about a Year ago. 2 case fans, a new Volcano 7 cpu Fan later... I run 70 degree's cooler.

Sounds like overheating to me as well (the heavy cpu load). I'd also recommend taking the cover off/canned air. Another thing you can do that doesn't cost a lot of money is just get a cheap desk fan and blow it into the case. If you do, don't get it too close to the montior though, or it'll vibrate (really hard on the eyes).

As for WinXP, it's built on the 2k platform, so most of the things from there should work.

Thanks for the help all. :]

Window's actually aborted itself right after I posted that... oh the ire! Sometimes I feel my computer is purposefully spiting me... is it wrong to attribute animistic qualities to a machine?

Osho: The error's been the same last two times, I don't remeber it exactly, but it's a missing/corrupt sytem file.

I'm gonna try both the fan thing.. and the cpu priority if I can find it in 2KProfessional. I don't think buying some new fans for this would hurt at any rate, is what killed my last computer. When I used to smack it to make the "whirring" noise stop, I thought that was fixing the fan rather than stopping it, oops. Neutral ;]

PS: New avatar for Mr. Rage, quite the make-over. Shocked

He's magical Trevor now.

I think that you set the priority in 2k the same way that you do in XP, but I can't remember...

CTRL+ALT+DEL -> Task Manager -> Processes Tab -> Right Click the Process -> Set Priority.
