I'm just wondering exactly when a flash is needed. The camera's don't seem to realize when there's an artifical lightsource in the room. IE. in a city where you dont' get the "it is dark" message. Is this intended? Flash during night, no flash during day, regardless of other circumstances?

Yes. There are a million and one things about the photography system that need to be added and/or redone. For now, it is what it is. That whole process will be rewritten for live. As for bigger memory cards, perhaps in live. (Or no cards at all, and a film plus chemicals process instead).
