Yea I thought it was a bit too easy. Easy part in being able to fix it at all at level 1 with 3 in repair and electronics. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

They are pretty difficult. There is a random factor to it, though, so you may have to try a number of times before you get lucky. You won't be able to do this until you get close to approximately level 20, and some the highest level technicians can barely do the hardest range upgrade. |
I tried it again and was able to install the mail chip. I'm not sure if I actually opened the comm the first attempt or not which could have been my problem. Couldn't install the range chip but judging by what you said that'd make sense.

I think the decay rate on comms needs to be checked. Mine has only started crackling once but I hear Mellie complaining about how she needs hers fixed like every 2 days. That seems a bit extreme to me.
Also, if comms are gonna be breaking down every day, what about medical equipment too? And any other electronics, cyberware too. . .I asked in another thread what exactly happens when cyberware gets damaged? Are there any detrimental effects to damaged cyberware? If not I think there should be, would give people ALOT more incentive to get them fixed if the chips wont work after being damaged or something. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

I did say in news 46 that medical devices will need to be repaired also. I just haven't implemented it yet. Even with the chip that doubles integrity, you still think they break too quickly? |

I guess with the comm chip it would mean getting it fixed every 3-4 days if you talk on your comm alot. I cant really post an opinion on that since it hasnt happened to me yet. More of an annoyance I suppose if there isnt a tech around when you need one. Kinda like brokers and medics.
Yea sorry I must have missed the part about medical equipment too on news 46. . .
Got an answer for the cyberware? _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

The chips in the cyberware won't get damaged, but they are pretty difficult to fix when they get badly damaged. There are many parts that may need to be replaced, including...
1. A bottle of glass sealant
2. A cyberware casing replacement kit
3. A cyberware wiring kit
4. A hose replacement kit
5. A lens replacement kit
6. A transducer replacement kit
7. A gyro replacement kit
8. A small actuator
9. A large actuator
10. A laser replacement kit
It is of course possible to make chips become damaged and unusable, but I think the cost of the replacement parts and the time it takes is enough of an inconvenience. Cyberware is very easily damaged and hard to repair. If anyone else has thoughts on this I'd like to hear them. I'd also like to hear thoughts on the integrity of communicators.

Sorry to bring up the cyberware again but what exactly does damage do to cyberware? Just make it look bad? If it has no detrimental effects at all then what is the point of getting it fixed? None at all in my opinion. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

People just need to talk less on the comm. _________________ ** The phrase "break a leg" just wasn't ambitious enough for Mellie Knight. [8:31 pm]

A couple of points..
* Damage to cyberware generally reduces the bonus you get from that item, and in some cases can have other effects.
* Comms wearing out isn't based on this notion of days. It's based on usage. If you're repairing a comm to max (mind you, one repair often won't be enough to fully repair!) and you have to repeat in two days while the general populace does so much less often, that is an indication that you use the comm much more than your average player, so it only makes sense you also repair more. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Yeah, everyone should be more like me with their comm usage. Or, if it's a huge problem, just buy more than one comm so you're never without one. |

Ok then how about this
I put my comm on yesterday, said very little on it then turned it off for the rest of the night. Woke up today to it crackling after about ten transmisions.
I personally think they break down WAY to fast, even with the chip.
is our technology so weak that we cant keep something as simple as a comm going?
I mean we just launched a probe into space you would think this would be childsplay.

Is that the first time your comm broke down? If not, how many days passed since you got it repaired? |
